A TRIBUTE TO BRIAN SENIOR OF DEWSBURY.
I recently had a phone call from Mark Senior to inform me that his father, the champion pigeon racer and show man, Brian Senior had passed away on the 31st July. Brian loved to race and show his wonderful team of birds and won top positions in both codes. He raced as Senior & Blakeley and won the Federation many times through the years and some of his best performances in the show pen were winning gold and silver medals at the Olympiads from 1973 to 1991. A wonderful loft performance! Brian’s pigeon career started with two Wood Pigeons and progressed from that to flying out of Dewsbury with great success in the 1990’s and then flew for Petron Lofts until he retired. Mark says his dad was a Yorkshire man through and through and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Some of Brian’s best birds were: ‘Best Man’, strawberry mealy cock and winner of five times 1st club, three times 1st Federation and was the sire if five 1st Federation winner. This champion cock never went to the Olympiad, but his son, ‘Come a Day, did and won a silver medal at Dusseldorf. This champion mealy won racing: 1st club, 1st Federation (1,667 birds), 1st club, 3rd Federation (1,244 birds), 1st club, 1st Federation (1,486 birds), 1st club, 1st Federation (967 birds), plus several other premier positions in the club and Federation. Another top bird was the grizzle white flight hen, ‘George’s Girl’ and she was in the Olympiad team and won a silver medal at the Dusseldorf Olympiade in 1973. This great hen was also an outstanding racer and won: 1st club, 1st Federation Chichester, 1st club, 5th Federation Didcot, 1st club, 1st Federation Banbury, plus several other top prizes on the road. A wonderful winning record achieved over many years in the sport!
