Still working on what pigeons we have left after 5 weeks of blow homes, the hardest we had was when Ebony thrashed me and took the top 4 in the club in a northeast wind. I have always been a fan of Unikon but they don’t appear to have moved on since I was last racing. The system is so easy to use, and I would like to stick to it, but I can see changes taking place because of the way we are going to race in 2024. I was given the number of someone to speak to at Unikon to see if there was a way round my problem, but they didn’t get back to me so it’s time for a change. Going to look at everything over the next few weeks to see what options I have before deciding. The other changes I am looking at are changing a section to darkness, not a system that I am fond of because of my experience with pigeons in later life. The only time I tried darkness the youngsters were immaculate; you could have won the shows with them, not a feather out of place. The problem I had was when I put them across the channel as yearlings, I lost them all, why I still don’t know to this day. I have spoken to many fanciers about the system, and from the people I have asked it appears I am the only one to experience such losses at the yearling stage. Could this have been a one off, who knows, we can only try again in 2024, with half the young bird team, Ebony can manage two sections, they appear to like her better than me, no comments.

Pigeon fanciers do another good job.

“We have put your donation to work. Thank you again for your fantastic donation back in May. Since then, we have had many applications for support, which we have been able to offer because of the funds you made available to us. We have donated equipment and pillows to 47 young people since we met you back in May, some were quite local, and others were from around the UK but all needed support to fund equipment. The monitors have ranged greatly in price from £249 up to £1500. If I may, I'd like to give you some examples of the young people we have been able to support through your donation? Dylan, (18) from Stoke on Trent, Dylan hadn’t been able to find work because of his epilepsy but since getting his Embrace 2 he has felt confident enough to try again, feels much better about himself and can’t wait to find a job. Georgia (23) from Knypersley Staffs, was also given an Embrace 2, she told us that it has given her the confidence to go out again with her friends and to do things on her own rather than have mum with her. William (16) from Tarporley opted for a pulse companion, he is starting at Reaseheath College this month, something which really worried him. He feared having a seizure and not getting the help he needs. Now his has his monitor he feels better about starting college, finding his way around the campus, and making new friends, knowing that if he needs help, it will be called for. Carla (20) from Crewe has been given an Embrace 2, she is starting university this month and the thought of leaving home, being “on her own” was very scary both for her and her family. She really wanted to study and live in at Manchester but didn’t feel she could. Now she is excited and reassured that help will be on hand if she needs it. These are just 4 examples of the young people you have helped through your fundraising event. Each of our applicants have said that the equipment has given back some control of their lives and independence, some have slept alone in their own beds for the first time in a long time. Some families have told us that the relationship between them has improved a lot due to being able to sleep and not feeling the stress of not knowing when a seizure was happening. The reassurance that they can help straight away. The fact that you have provided funds for us to empower young people to reach their potential, follow their dreams and continue with education is beyond thanks. But, on behalf of the Trustees, and all the young people we have helped, thank you anyway. Regards Wendy Shaw, Founder Jon Shaw Foundation” As always Elimar have a separate charity account where the funds from pigeons donated and sold is put and when we get to 4 figures, we donate it to a good cause. So, if you have any that you would like to donate contact Elimar who are here for everyone, not just the few.

When I called round at Dave Healey’s with Ebony there was a surprise in store for her. Lyn came out of the house with a new crate that Dave had made for Ebony, what a grand gesture that was. Ebony was so pleased with it she is going to get it varnished and polished up for next year. Let’s just get one thing right, Dad Steve will be doing the work, he will polish it up just like he does with her car, as they say, spick and span. Thanks to Dave, Ebony will now be going to the club in 2024 showing off her new crate and it’s just the right size for the pigeons she has.
