Lanarkshire Federation - Thirsk Race
This week takes us into North Yorkshire and the weather forecast was reasonable for a good race, initially it looked like being more of a steady race but it ended up a much quicker affair than I thought. The 5,072 birds were liberated at 10 15 am in an East North East wind.
The flying distance of 154 miles for the winners was being covered in 3 hrs 08 m recording velocity around 1441.back into lower Central Scotland.
The reports of pigeons returning high in the Skye to their home lofts shows the wind was behind them. Returns again were excellent with most recording over 90 % returns. The GPS tracker showed the bird coming up the M6 area and into Longtown, so the east north east wind was pushing them over to the west of the country. With the birds so high then possible some ended up into the western areas of Scotland. But most are there to fight another day.

This weeks winner are the masters of the game with two 1st Open federations in a row the outstanding GWP Macaloney partnership, who totally dominated the race with 13 of 15 pigeons in the top fifteen of their section.
The master partnership of GWP Macaloney record 1st Open federation two weeks in a row. Absolutely brilliant flying lads & 1st North section,1st Open federation Thirsk for GWP Macaloney
Their ability to have a team performance most weeks is incredible and i think personally puts them on a different level from others. Their winner is a check yearling hen called "Redemption" is a multiple federation winner of 8 previous cards in top 40 of the Open and she is only a yearling.
The winner is bred out of all the old tested Champion breeders in their stock. With Camelot and Lancelot lines to the fore.
The partnerships hen pigeons this year are being targeted for National level and on this performance must be in with a shout for top honours.
Well done to Paul and Wullie on another outstanding performance.
Andy Eadie sent a photo of his Cambusnethan winner he is calling Bellside Perseverance, a cracking young cock who also takes 4th sect,9th Open ,5,072 birds. He is raced on the celibate system. Andy commented on another race with excellent returns.
Andy wishes to thank the Chief race controller and assistant for doing a cracking job and lets not forget the drivers and Big Josie Gillon for looking after our birds( only downside Big Josie eats all his dinner before he left Newmains at 9 30pm and we need to hoover the cabin. Congratulations to all winners in their respective clubs and good luck next week at Bibwith around the 180 miles
