Lanarkshire Federation
Thirsk Open Race and Final Average boards
This week takes us to Thirsk in North Yorkshire, England around 150 miles back into lower Central Scotland. The weather was very hot all week with temperatures around 26-28 degrees on day of racing.
Due to the fog banks around the east coast the birds were held till 10am before liberation with no wind and cloudless sky.
The winners took around 2 hrs 48 minutes for 145 miles with a velocity of 1523.
The race itself was a mixed bag for returns with most missing birds.

Overall for the season the Lanarkshire has had excellent racing and we thank Paul Macaloney (Race Controller) for his dedication to the role. It’s a thankless job that people moan about but avoid the job like the plague.
Thanks to the Lanarkshire committee for their excellent season and working in difficult financial times, keeping the federation at the front.
Thanks to our brilliant secretary Jim Cameron who works tirelessly to get the results out as quickly as possible and usually the next day after the race.
Race Winner
John Whiteford & Family had a fabulous race winning 1st & 2nd Open and a total of ten pigeons on the result against 1150 birds competing.
John Whiteford winner of 1st & 2nd Open Thirsk
The Whiteford family are a very well respected family who work tirelessly to help in the sport. It’s very much a family affair with John, James, Stevie and Wendy all together making a winning formula.
When speaking with James he was very proud to have won the Open and gave me some information of their winners and general management of the birds.
Their winner of 1st Centre section,1st Open is Cheq hen SU22L10048 is bred out of Taylor Brothers of Newbiggin Saifier blood and Davie Staddon winters gemx lines.
Their 2nd Centre section,2nd Open Blue hen GB 22 V 88680 was a gift from Alister MacLean from his Chieftain lines.
Both birds were raced on the darkness system and have a mixture of loft exercise twice per day with the odd trainer up to twice per week. They are fed a general young bird mixture.
They are raced weekly with the very competitive Newmains, Cambusnethan/Morningside, Lanarkshire Social Circle clubs and win all of them this week.
Well done to the Whiteford's who will be a very popular winner this week.
