Lanarkshire News - Worksop Race
This week we are at Worksop in Nottingham, England around 211 miles to this week’s winner into lower central Scotland.
This race also incorporates a yearling derby.
The first Open pool race for yearlings this season giving those who wish a flutter on their pigeons. Although it appears that it is struggling to get those who wish such a bet.
The weather conditions again weren't ideal with complete blue sky day and moon in Sky at liberation which has proven over the years to produce difficult racing.
At the home end a fresh west wind was blowing with partial cloud and the odd shower.
The birds were away in a convoy of 3,300 Lanarkshire pigeons and 27 crates from other organisations. Also 1,000 Ayrshire federation birds sitting on site were also up and away in a light SW wind
The winners started hitting the boards around 4 hrs 21 minutes and a velocity of 1424ypm to Ian Rankin of Airdrie club.
Ian Rankin winner of 1st Sect,1st Open federation and Airdrie club
I phoned Ian to congratulate him and get some details of his 1st sect 1st Open federation 3,300 birds.
His winner is a 3yr old Lambrech grizzle hen flown on the roundabout system. It was loft trained with one training flight for cocks and hens in club transporter on alternative days.
The fine winner was bred by Lancashire Social Circle fancier Brian Dearn.
Ian has put a lot of work into his pigeons this season with the help of friend Jim Wood are riding high in Airdrie club and the federation average leader board. Jim was on holiday this week but like most pigeon fanciers wouldn't be far from the phone to find out how the pigeons were doing. Well Jim you can relax Ian has got them on top!
Well done to Ian and Jim who had a terrific race also putting 4 pigeons in top 15 of section .
1st & 2nd yearling derby was the brilliant partnership of GWP Macaloney who recorded a velocity of 1423ypm.They are on fire at the moment and had 59 out of 61 birds sent recorded on their ETS Benzing live system .This is on a day when mere mortals were struggling for half measures at clock checking. They had 8 in top 15 of section.
1st Yearling Derby for GWP Macaloney-A cracking looking pigeon in top health & 2nd Yearling Derby for GWP Macaloney
Paul Macaloney showing his winner" MK Markey" & GWP Macaloney top the Yearling derby and also lead the Old Bird Averages
This partnership are the bar that all fanciers should be attempting and when you see their performances you question your own quality as a fancier.
I remember pigeon fancier Hugh McIvor saying years ago that no one can compete with the Macs just enjoy your pigeons because if you do try you will make yourself unwell! I think he had insight!
As stated it was a tough race for most with only 8 birds recorded in 1400s
A good percentage didn't home with birds being reported all over the country and even into Northern Ireland.
Again this will have a significant impact on birdage next week.

Federation secretary looking for a review of Open races in federation. The yearling derby pool race is a lot of work for little value it is felt as limited members supporting.
There will be a review of Open races by committee and proposals put forward at next AGM.
With the losses recorded throughout the federation once we go over 100 miles a review of race programme is needed as small to medium team fanciers are finding it very difficult to continue weekly on present programme. Possibly a comeback race every second race after the 200 mile mark may possibly allow fanciers to recharge their team. Having a 200,250,280 three weeks in a row in present weather is significantly difficult and will have a dent on federation birdage and costs .Just my thoughts.
