Lanarkshire Federation - Annan, first race of the 2024 season
Well after a terrible start to the pre-season weather ,the racing came too quickly for most, not getting enough work into their pigeons before the first race in 2024.
The federation supported members by putting on training events with the use of the transporter on the line of flight.
These trainers were well supported by the members.
The race day came with 4,000 federation and 500 other organisation birds away at 10 45 in a light S/W wind.
As with most races the winners made good time but this wasn't the true picture of this race. Large numbers of the convoy didn't home, including experienced pigeons.
This wasn't what the federation needed for its first race and hopefully we will get better next week. Time will tell!
The report from the liberation area and fanciers in Annan that the birds didn't clear the area well. Batches were observed heading North on line of flight only to return in large numbers.
Most fanciers suffered losses some significant which is always not great for the coming weeks.
Fanciers in the borders have been collecting Lanarkshire birds in large numbers to get them back up the road to their owners. Much appreciated to them.
Like most races the winners always make good time but the majority struggle, this week’s winner was recording 1500ypm into Uddingston club for John Carswell.
I phoned John to congratulate him on his 1st sect,1st Open, 4,000 birds.
John informed me that his winner was a 2023 late bred with an older ring "22" he was lightly trained in his year of birth from Lesmahagow and trained this season from the line of flight utilising the federation transporter.
The cock was entered for his first race, he wasn't paired but John thinks he had his eye on a hen. The ETS ring was only put on him on Friday.
John didn't see the pigeon arrive and that the great thing about the ETS system John said!
He is a Gervart bred was bred Alan Pollard lines.
Well done John on a fantastic result.
