Appleton race ,Gault & Quinn make it two in a row

This week unfortunately was the toughest of tests for our pigeons, extreme heat and  a North East wind.

Flying from the traditional route in this conditions a true test for the pigeons and fancier.

The morning mist stopped an early liberation meaning the birds return in the mid-day sunshine that was in the twenty degrees mark.

The 3123 birds plus 17 other crates were away at 09 15 am in a light North East wind in bright sunshine.

The winning birds started hitting the boards around 4 hrs 7 minutes for a velocity of 1300ypm ,well one pigeon made that velocity and the next 100 birds recorded 1200ypm.

The vast majority of birds struggled with even the first percentage home showing heat exhaustion, birds hitting the boards desperate for water,

As previously stated over the forty odd years I have kept pigeons these days are always the toughest and losses are significant.

But we are all our own race controllers!

Hopefully the weather will settle down and we see the back of these east winds that have been with us since the start.

1st North section,1st Open federation Two weeks in  Row!

This week’s winners making it two in a row 1st Open federation for Gault & Quinn.

This is a brilliant couple of weeks racing with Wullie & Jimmy showing the rest of us the way forward.

It’s not often in Lanarkshire federation out with the names of GWP Macaloney or B McCrindle & Son that any one loft has such a result.

Their winner is a yearling cheq hen bred by Colin Grieve from Woodroffe Bros stock and flown on the roundabout system.

Well done to the partnership on a truly brilliant result .
