Lanarkshire News - Stafford Race 25/5/24
This week we arrived in Staffordshire around 220 miles back into lower central Scotland.
The weather was ideal with a light east south east wind and around 17 degrees.
The very modest birdage of 1,557 and 10 crates from other organisations were away at 09 00hrs.
Considering we started with 4,000 in the first two races and this is only the fifth race is significant.
Think it’s the sign of modern pigeon racing, doesn't matter what direction you are racing the losses are significant!
The winner into the west section of the federation hitting the boards at 12 49 for a velocity of 1693ypm.
The winner of 1st sect,1st Open federation for the newly formed partnership of Jimmy McMillan and Andrew Suckle fly into the compound in Blantyre.
Jimmy is a hard working member of the federation organising the social events and also helping with the transporting of the birds for the Guernsey race last year.
Andrew resides in South Lanarkshire and is a good catalyst for Jimmy.
When speaking with Jimmy he said his winner came from a straight line out the south and trapped well to cover her 10 day old eggs. She was bred out a B/Pied cock from friend Callum McMillan. She has had all races to date in federation programme.
Jimmy said he had another pigeon around a minute later but the hen was acting strange landing out with the compound but they still had a brilliant race putting four in the section.
They have been flying well with Jimmy putting more work into them training them with federation transporter although this week due to the poor weather all week no training was given.
Their returns have been first class with 100% the last two races which is always a good sign of a loft in form.
The returns this week was a mixed bag with the lofts in form reporting 100% returns and others missing a percentage of their team.
