Lanarkshire Federation - Woolaston Race
This week we arrived in Woolaston around 245 miles back into lower central Scotland. The 1,150 federation birds and 11 other crates were away at 07 15 in a light North wind.
At the home end the weather was very pleasant ,bright and sunny.
The winners started hitting the boards around 13 01 into the Hamilton area recording 1234 ypm but again this wasn’t the true reflection of what turned out to be possible the worst race of Lanarkshire federation for many a year.
The birds just didn’t home in any significant numbers or regularity with only four birds making 1200ypm and eleven recording 1100 ypm.
These are birds that are into their sixth race and have already took many a hammering on the present route of flight.
The membership voted including myself to retry this route but to be honest to continue would be financial suicide ,never mind the impact it is having on our pigeons.
This week’s winner of 1st sect,1st Open is the ultra-consistent Walter Boswell of Burnbank club in Hamilton.
Walter again is having a brilliant season winning his second 1st Open and numerous section prize winners with his John Short Performance UK pigeons
His winner is a B/C of the Rondag breeding was sent with his hen just laying her first egg.
Walter didn't even see the pigeon coming as he only realised he had timed when he seen the hen off the nest and the winner was sitting on the egg.
Walter races on the traditional natural system, with the birds being road trained well throughout the week .
Walter like everyone else reported significant losses over the season and feels it’s time to leave this race route behind.
Congratulations Walter on another fine winner.
The top lofts in the federation have been reporting terrible racing and returns throughout the racing. The federation started with 4,000 at the first race and we are down to just over 1,000. Not good reading and a financial disaster for the federation..
That's it we had to give it a go and a very rude awakening for those who support their federation.
Well that's the nail in the coffin for this route for evermore!
This is only my opinion and not that of committee!
