Lanarkshire Federation - Yeovil Open
This week we arrive at Yeovil 345 miles back into Lower Central Scotland for our first major Open race of the season.
The 450 birds were race marked on the Friday for a Sunday race, liberated at 06 30 am in a light WSW wind .So we held our breath and hoped for a good race. The winners started to hit the boards around 15 36 for the 346 miles recording a velocity of 1117 ypm a good working velocity.
This week’s winners are having a brilliant season already topping the federation and completing their fourth section win of the season. Gault & Quinn is the name and winning is very much their game this season .
1st sect,1st Open Yeovil winners Gault & Quinn
Last season they showed their qualities and this season have shown a cracking level of consistency at club and federation.
They fly the Cattrysse pigeons, both guys being "fanatics" for these old lines. They have preserved these birds for many a decade and their confidence in these pigeons haven't let them down.
Their winner is a 5yr old blue cock pigeon flying on the roundabout ,he has been a top performer over the years winning many top positions including 8th Open Eastbourne and also 43rd Open Guernsey 2023
The previous week he was there to win the club but was beaten through the trap by loft mates.
The partnership of Wullie and Jimmy had a fantastic race clocking 3 birds in thirty minutes and five of their team on the shift when a most struggled.
The partnership fly in the Airdrie club and the loft is situated in the village of Plains east side of Airdrie.
They are down to earth guys that have kept pigeons all their days and get the best out of their medium size flock of racers.
This was very much a team performance recording 1st,2nd,4th sect,1st ,4th,7th Open winning this year’s Blue Ribbon race, recording 5 in top 42 of Open.
Brilliant flying, winning their section two weeks in a row and four times this season.
Well done to Wullie and Jimmy and all the best for the remaining races.

The analysis of the race
This week shows that 7 of the top 10 on the average leaders board not recording a bird on the day.
That must be an unwelcome record!
The losses again were very significant and will have a major impact for rest of the season.
Young Bird Programme 2024
"The Lanarkshire members have already voted at the recent EGM to change the young bird programme back to the east route" because of the poor racing and financial impact its having on the federation.
