Lanarkshire News - Wooler 3
This week we are back at Wooler ,Northumberland for the final race from here before we move onto Alnwick next week.
The convoy of 3,311 federation birds and 16 other crates from others were away at 09 15hrs in a light west wind.
The winner hit the boards at 10 54hrs for the 75 miles on a velocity of 1339ymp.
This week’s winner of 1st sect,1st Open federation is Lewis McCalley of Clarkston club. Those that follow Lanarkshire news will know the name as he has the knack to top the federation on a regular basis.
I had the pleasure to put his youngsters through on race night and right from the first bird I took out the basket I felt he was the man to beat.
This was his first YB race of the season but his birds were bang on.
I was "wax lyrical" to other members about the condition of his birds, first race or not they were up for the task of being up with the winners.
His winner was a blue hen bred by Woodroffe Bros ,Sunderland and was raced on the darkness system and was rung with one of his gold ringers which will be competed for in the last race of the season from Thirsk in three weeks’ time and Lewis will be hoping she can continue this form.
Well done to Lewis who is fast becoming one of the stars of Lanarkshire federation.
The race itself was probable the best of the season with the birds homing in great regularity and with excellent returns.
