Lanarkshire Federation -Retford Race Report

Retford is a market town in Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands of England, located 31 miles (50 km) from the city of Nottingham.
The pigeons where away at 07 15 for the 213 mile journey back into Central Scotland, with no wind reported, turning south east on route, although at the home end it was north east.
Two lofts that have been up with the leaders every week ,that of Eadie & Kelly and Wullie Smart had a couple of pigeons a country mile in front of the convoy of 1130 birds.
It is difficult to imagine how some pigeons can achieve over one hundred yards per minute ahead of the pack(24 miles ahead.) Some say they just break quicker and get themselves to a different height and velocity. Anyway it?s not an improbable velocity as many federations racing that day achieved higher with their winners
Well back to the race and with only two miles between the two lofts there was only a split second of a difference. Eadie & Kelly take top honors from Wullie Smart.
This is a reverse on last week?s result showing the level of consistency between the federation?s two leading young bird average contenders.
Congratulations to Andy Eadie of Bellside on his terrific performance and with only the comeback race to go looks odds on to win the averages. But as they say it?s never over till the fat lady sings?.

Andy and Wullie are good friends and both fly in the highly competitive Newmains and Cambusnethan clubs.
Andy you are on the bell this week.
You lads will have to give big Tam a chance one week.ha,ha.

The race was a very erratic affair, with big gaps between returning pigeons and plenty not returning on the shift.
We moved down this route for better racing, but to be honest we are still getting the same losses and erratic racing.Food for thought!

Special mention to John Short of my own club Clarkston & Dist who wins the section and has six birds posted in the top ten, thats some performance from over 200 miles.

Brilliant John.
