Lanarkshire Federation - Otterburn race on 6th August
Otterburn, in the North East of England was this week?s venue, around eighty odd miles back to central Scotland.
For some reason there are fanciers who call it slaughter burn, making reference to a bad race a number of years ago, but to be honest it?s a decent as it gets for a liberation site. I think with the introduction of the Kelso race points has allowed the birds to home well from the shorter distance so by the time they come to Otterburn the birds have already been schooled.
For those that leave their youngsters for their first race into Otterburn, they take their own chances in relation to what race they get.
Onto the liberation of 5,400 birds which is a reality check on the problems with pigeon?s health around the country. The Lanarkshire should be up in the 7,000 for this race.
It was a bright morning and with the rain moving in for the afternoon the birds were away at 7 30 am in a light WSW wind.
Well done Dave Young our race controller as the wining birds made excellent velocities high into the 1300s.
I personally thought around the two hour mark but they were timing on the 1 hr 48 minute to top the federation.
This week?s winner is Ian Rankin of Airdrie Dist who has been having a cracking season, winning three in a row in the very strong Airdrie Dist club, this takes some winning .Ian is a hard working Secretary of the club and I am sure everyone is delighted for his results. Well done Ian.
Ian Rankin (R) wins three in a row in Airdrie Dist, two in a row in Lanarkshire Social Circle and tops the federation, what a weekend!

Ian?s winning bird is breed off of 2 birds I got in November from Brian Dearn
from Lancashire. The parents are both Lambrechts, the nest mate was given to George Mann for the Lanarkshire social Circle ex-change bird. I picked the
Grizzle for George but the nest mate actually looked better so I gave
George that one. So much for my picking.
