Lanarkshire Federation Kelso1 01-08-16

LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION

Tom Corrie jnr

Well it’s arrived the young bird season which generally nowadays is usually a scary affair for most with raptors and disease that is having a huge impact on fanciers ability to get their birds trained and healthy.

Some have already took an almighty hit and have called it a day before it even starts. Some cannot even exercise the birds around loft due to constant falcon attacks. It really is sickening and "WE ARE FINISHED AS A SPORT IN THE PRESENT FORM".

Anyway for those who braved the first race from the historic borders town of Kelso Scotland.

The birdage 3.600 “what a poor entry for the first race for Lanarkshire” tells you all is not well in lofts around the federation.

The birds were liberated into a light south west wind at 8am.  At the home end it was full cloud cover “one of those dead skies” that tends to spell erratic racing.

Anyway the birds took around 1 hr 30 minutes for the winners and the rest well spread out.

Returns were a mixed bag.

Over the two weeks leading up to the first race, the federation transporter was away most days (weather permitting) from around the Peebles area, which have been excellent. Thanks to those who take the time to spend their time organising the pick-up points, Carluke, Uddingston ,Blantyre and Larkhall, without your help it’s not possible. Unfortunately this venture wasn’t supported well by the members for one reason or another. Possible due to the erratic weather we have been getting this month. Suggestions needed from the membership to improve.

The mobile phone text service has also proved to be a great success and for only £3 a season its great value.

I have said we really need to rethink how we race pigeons and those with ideas should have their say at the AGM.

Wullie Smart(L) wins the first 13 in Federation, absolutely outstanding
