LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION
Tom Corrie jnr
Lanarkshire Federation Open
Billericay
Billericay is a town and civil parish in the Basildon borough of Essex, England. It lies within the London Basin, and constitutes a commuter town 28 miles (45 km) east of central London. It is thought to have been occupied since the Bronze Age.
The distance back into Scotland is around the 354 miles.
Birds were raced marked on the Thursday for a Saturday race giving the birds plenty of rest time between and with the committee making the decision to reduce the number of pigeons to 18 per basket a proactive measure for the well being of the pigeons(which can only be a good thing) and I am sure others will follow this initiative.
The birds were away at 6 15 in a North by North West wind and the race was on.
Most thought around the nine and a half hours for the winners but this time passed and then the word that birds had reached Lanarkshire just after 4pm but unfortunately most of the federation took an almighty hit with a small percentage of the 1120 convoy returning on the night.
This has possible been the worst weekend of racing for fanciers up and down the country for many a year.
At the home end the weather was warm and sunny and looked a perfect racing day but that wasn't the case in other areas with reports of heavy showers on route.
Onto those who managed to time, congratulations to all .
Wullie Millen (L) wins the Open
This years winner is the fabulous loft of Wullie Millen who has already had a brilliant season, this being his third federation win with a dark 3yr old hen bred out of his good friend Jim Wood (Uddinston club) good distance hen treble four and an Etienne Neirlaen distance cock. His other two he timed were also out of Jim’s stock.
Well done Wullie, a loft that takes some beating.
