LANARKSHIRE SOCIAL CIRCLE
Tom Corrie
Buckingham - September 2014
We arrive at the final race of the season for the he young birds, flown in conjunction with the SNFC. The birds were flying the best part of 300 miles for most, always a testing race for members who like to challenge their youngsters with the ultimate young bird distance event into Scotland. The club is based around the central Scotland area and the Nationals are generally raced up the east coast of England. This is very testing event, as annually proven for the central and west coast fanciers. This year the wind was east so some light relief, which resulted in the winner of the National being timed into Lockerbie on the south west side of Scotland. The birds were away at 10.30 am and the race was on for the members.
Leading the way for the Social Circle was the brilliant distance loft of Mr & Mrs Elliot of Newbiggin who in his first year in the club added this win to the magical Gold Cup he won in the old bird programme. Dave Elliot shirks no challenge with every fit pigeon going the distance. This policy is sore on the returns but leaves him with the very best deserving their perch for the resting period. Who would argue with someone who is easily one of the all time greats. This season has been outstanding winning 2 x 1st section and 2 x 2nd Section in the SNFC. You can see how these birds are highly sought after when available at the sales. Well done Dave - simply the best.
Race winner Dave Elliot (R)
This year’s winner was part of the club’s young bird exchange and was bred by Danny Mitchell of Plains. This bird was also 2nd Section from Uttoxeter with the Lanarkshire Federation the previous week. A cracking pigeon, bred from Danny's distance family. The pigeon Davie bred for Danny in the exchange also won a race, showing the quality of birds in the exchange.
Runner up Derek Hay had a cracking fortnight, last week winning the race and this week 2nd prize (plus 1st section SNFC last year in this race). Top flying from a top fancier, another who will always test his bloodlines.
Well done to Wullie Millen and John Alston, other members who had a great race.
I would like to thank on behalf of the membership, club secretary David McCaig for his professionalism throughout the season. I hope to see all the members and friends at the presentation night, which is always a cracking evening.
