Dave Love of Airdrie District creates the first Star of the Season

 

In every way the right decision was made by the race control team this week. Race marking was cancelled on the Friday, eventually taking place on the Sunday for a Monday race due to the unpredictable British weather. Again the great benefit of having our own transporter and strong leadership.

The 3,700 birds were liberated at 08.30am from Uttoxeter, East Staffordshire, England, racing the 220 miles back into the central belt of Scotland. The wind was initially south east, again making it a fast one with the birds reaching the high 1500s, although the returns were erratic (early birds were wet with the showers en route) with big gaps in the velocities between clubs, with mixed returns over the fed.

This week’s federation winner is Dave Love of Airdrie Dist for the second time this old bird season (brilliant), with the same blue cock (outstanding) that topped the mighty Lanarkshire with 7,600 birds a couple of weeks ago. Dave recently joined the Lanarkshire and last year the same bird could have been Scottish Midland Federation young bird of the year with his performances,also topping the federation. What a pigeon. What next for this Champion racer? I took the time to phone Dave and ask him about his Champion racer. First the blue cock is finished for the season. “Doesn't owe me anything”, said Dave. His breeding is from pigeons purchased from Ken Hillcoat. Sire is Silver Shadow Van Loon and dam is De Klak/Koopman first cross.Well done Davie, he must be the pride of Airdrie. Dave you are living the dream. Dave said it is his club mates who motivate him to win as this club has the best and you have to be on your game to win. The Airdrie club on a whole dominated the federation, the multi talented loft of John Barr showing great consistency with 5 in the top 8 of the club. Well done lads.
