LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION

Tom Corrie

This week 1st June 2013, Lanarkshire Federation were at Leicester an average distance of 253 miles into the centre of Lanarkshire. This was the first Open race of the old bird programme. This race focuses on the yearlings and as the the convoy was liberated at 07 00 hrs in a North West wind in humid conditions, this was always going to be a tester. Report states the pigeons for some reason didn't clear the race point and eventually broke into four batches, which isn't an ideal start. After 5 hours and 54 minutes the Yearling Open was won by the brilliant loft of GWP Macaloney of Coatbridge, well out on their own by 46yds with a Blue Cock. 5 x 1st Federations in 7 races - outstanding flying in the biggest federation in the country.

Paul & William Macaloney 1st Open

The race itself was very erratic with large number of birds missing. So what's new with racing over the 250 miles? Plenty of theories but no concrete answer. Pigeon racing is finished already for large numbers of fanciers due to the heavy losses with the longest races still to come: Newbury, Maidstone and Ypres in the federation programme. Onto this week's club and federation winners.
