LANARKSHIRE SOCIAL CIRCLE
Tom Corrie
Presentation Night - 19th October 2012
Like the Gary Barlow lyrics "The stars are coming out tonight", the Social Circle had fanciers travelling from everywhere in the country to celebrate and enjoy a very special night of everything pigeons. The atmosphere in Avonbridge Hotel, Hamilton was fantastic, and it was a very memorable night for those trophy winners and visitors. The club committee arranged a cracking top table of guests to present this years winners, including Bill Smith and Roy Seaton - two of Scotland's top fanciers from the south section. There were plenty of prizes to be won which incorporates races throughout the Lanarkshire Federation and SNFC programme. These are very difficult trophies to win and every winner deserved the round of applause they received from the attending fellow fanciers.
Everything ran smoothly thanks to secretary David McCaig and the night flowed with help from his committee members (the brilliant compere President Ronnie Reid, the talk of the town Vice President Billy Bilsland - who blew away this year's SNFC Young Bird convoy, the charasmatic Vice President John Quinn and Davie Young working hard away in the background.David McCaig is a quietly confident person, and with his quick wit he knows how to manage these events. He knows every individual in the company, which tells you he puts a lot of groundwork into his role. Well done Davie!
Time passed very quickly and fanciers were able to get the time to relax between the formal presentation and the after dinner entertainment. Past Scotland international football star Alan Rough kept the crowd laughing away when he shared his experiences of his life in football and being a football pundit!
To name drop, John Duffy, John Bosworth, Wullie & Paul Macaloney, Jim Wilkinson, John McFall, Tommy Blair, John & John Hood, J Harwood, Norman Orr, Gareth Rankin, Jim Cullen, Billy Gordon Bobby Lane, Roy Seaton, Bill Smith, Billy Holland, Billy Bilsland and Billy Alison were all in the company and available for a chat. This was networking at its best.
The great thing is there is another open night for all fanciers and another top night when "Mr Distance" Chris Gordon will be attending on Friday 22nd February. So why don't you get along and and enjoy a cracking night. If this night was anything to go by, you will not be disappointed. The present venue is very accessible from the main M74 and makes it a great venue.
Compliments to the Chef for the lovely meal. A really enjoyable night from a non member of the club.
