LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION
Tom Corrie
April 2012
The start of a new season and bang on time the wind changes into the east and stays there for the first three weeks, not good racing weather especially flying the traditional route. Yearlings and inexperienced pigeons struggle badly in these cold winds, with losses reported throughout the clubs. Myself is no exception holding them back till the third race hoping the wind would change but to no avail and experienced heavy losses of these inexperienced pigeons, birds that hadn't raced the previous season. The wind is one of the biggest factor in relation to good racing, although some place a big factor on the falcon presence throughout the valleys of the borders of Scotland. It is hard to take the loss of birds loss, birds that you had high hopes for all year and they disappear without a say. If only we could work on this tracking system to understand the line of flight and the way our birds are travelling to home. The difference with racing in these conditions is the gaps between the first birds and the others, sometimes hours for them to arrive. We wait all day for birds to home from short races.
Onto the club and federation winners.
