Lanarkshire Federation - Wooler 2 result - Four in a Row 26-08-21

Lanarkshire Federation - Wooler 2 result - Four in a Row

This weekend the forecast was telling us it wasn't good for racing pigeons, so our race controller moved the race to the Friday. It turned out to be the best of decisions with the birds tumbling into Lanarkshire and everyone reporting excellent returns at marking.

The weather was overcast but with a south east tail wind they made light work of the seventy odd miles flight from Wooler in the North East of England. This race point has everyone raving about its excellent site and probable should be our first race of the season, missing out the dodgy Kelso.

The convoy of 3,300 birds plus twenty other crates were liberated at 915am in a light south east wind for the 75 miles journey. The pigeons appeared untroubled with them returning from a great height.

It good to see fanciers with a smile on their face with great returns and the ability to work on their team for the next race.

Big thanks to Paul Macaloney and his transport team for their management of the pigeons. Long may it continue and we go into next season with full teams.

Not since the brilliant Telfer Black Jets and the Mighty Macaloneys has a loft had such an impact as this weeks winners.

This weeks winners making it four in a row on topping the federation is Barclay McCrindle & Son. If you have been following Lanarkshire news you will be aware they have only ever competed in four races and this result is truly outstanding. They are getting team performances out of a moderate team of around thirty youngsters.

The man of the moment Barclay McCrindle makes it 4 x 1st Open federation in only 4 races into his Lanarkshire career.

This weeks winner is a red cock pigeon bred out of a son of den Hollander of Heremans bonne.

The partnership take 1st,2nd,3rd Open federation and have seven in the top fifteen of the Centre section. Top bombing lads, well done lads. “Can it be five in a row"

I think the bookies would have them odds on.

News from Kevin Docherty about the GPS rung pigeons showed them coming high and more direct than the previous weeks, photo included of route.

More fanciers are signing up for clip rings which will only help us understand the route of the pigeons. Remember when I used to think that you could in the future have this information and it’s here! Next you will sit waiting on the birds and a buzzer will go off on your phone to say the bird will arrive in the next few seconds. Watch this space!

GWP Macaloney had their usual brilliant race having 37 of their 62 team arrive together and take 14 of 15 positions in the North section including the first 5

On the subject of birdage, where of all the pigeons gone. "Something seriously wrong "The Lanarkshire federation average birdage is usually around the 5,000-6,000 numbers this season we haven't got over 4,000.

This tells you everything about the biggest problem in pigeon racing, Keeping them healthy!

This small loft won the Champion loft title in the Lanarkshire federation a few years back against over 80,000 birds competing over the season. It’s great to see them back competing!
