Fantastic race out of Salisbury (1) as Davis, Wright & sons of Swadlincote Town wins a photo finish.
Saturday August 20th saw the first visit to Salisbury for our young birds. 69 members from 9 clubs sent 1434 birds which were liberated at 08-20 in no wind, turning SW en route, picking up as the day went on.
What a fantastic race it was, with a blanket finish; a kit came through from the south with leading birds dropping out into south Derbyshire; Little Eaton, North of Derby and Holbrook.
Congratulations to Davis, Wright & Sons on taking 1st fed on 1794.8 with a blue pied cock; out of the Central Lofts top “Kittel” blood. The sire is inbred “Daniel’s Shakira”, the dam “Diamond Junior 932”.

At Stretton, 7 sent 207 and chairman Phil Whetton had a good day; Phil was 1st club on 1740 with a red Lambrecht hen, a full sister to the black cock that won Blandford OB, they are out of a red cock from the late Trevor bird and a De Zot hen.
Whilst Phil Bourke and family were sunning themselves in Majorca; freelance loft manager Steve Burke and Phil’s neighbour Dave Earp decided to send the birds as they were flying so well round home. It paid off as Phil took 2nd & 3rd club on 1716; 1715; both blue cocks. The first out of a Central Lofts Leo Hereman x M/M Lycett’s “Fantasia” which is a sister to champion “Eddy”; he was followed by one out of a full brother to “Eddy” when paired to a Tony & Lee Painter “Pink Panther” x Central Lofts daughter of “Blackpool Kittel”. This makes this cock a half-brother to “Mr Fahrenheit” Phil’s top racer this season; winning 4 x 1st and 2 x 2nd.

It was the clubs gold ring race also, and Phil Whetton took 1st prize, Ronnie Dakin & son runners up and Daniel Kurylo 3rd.

At Osmaston Park, 14 sent 240 and S & H W Hall were 1st & 2nd on 1794; 1793; Stan timing in a grizzle cock and a cheq cock to take 2nd & 3rd fed, details above; well done Stan and bad luck; so close to topping the fed.
Mick Stone was 3rd on 1782 with a cheq Ceuleman cock and Mr & Mrs Alan Houldsworth were 4th on 1776 with a blue hen out of an Ian Burnett cock when paired to a hen from Spink & Barks.
Over at Hill Ridware, 5 sent 130 and Spink & Barks were 1st & 2nd on 1702; 1700; the winner the blue Vandenabeele x “Safier” hen that was 3rd club and fed from Marlborough (1); the sire is “Pegg Leg” off Pete Wightman & sons M/M Lycett Vandenabeeles x a Farrar Soontjens, the dam from Alan Devlin “Safier” blood.
Runner up was a gay pied cock; sire off Jim Whitehouse’s “Crossbow” who also bred John Sheasbys blue pied cock that won 10 x 1st and 3 x 1st fed before being sold to Ireland ; the dam is “93” Phil and Daz’s top Lotterman x de Bruijn hen, herself a winner of 6 x 1st and 2 x 1st fed.
