Fantastic race out of Salisbury (1) as Davis, Wright & sons of Swadlincote Town wins a photo finish.

Saturday August 20^th saw the first visit to Salisbury for our young birds. 69 members from 9 clubs sent 1434 birds which were liberated at 08-20 in no wind, turning SW en route, picking up as the day went on.     

What a fantastic race it was, with a blanket finish; a kit came through from the south with leading birds dropping out into south Derbyshire; Little Eaton, North of Derby and Holbrook.

Congratulations to Davis, Wright & Sons on taking 1^st fed on 1794.8 with a blue pied cock; out of the Central Lofts top “Kittel” blood. The sire is inbred “Daniel’s Shakira”, the dam “Diamond Junior 932”.

Agony for Stan Hall of Osmaston park, just missing out on 1^st fed, but taking 2^nd & 3^rd on 1794.6; 1793; the first a grizzle cock that was bred out of a grizzle hen Stan purchased for his late wife Shirley, he was closely followed by a cheq cock off stock from Mr & Mrs Dave Stone of Heage.

A tremendous team performance by Kev Matthews of Holbrook, Kev had 7 arrive together, timed in a 14 second spell; the first on 1791 a Jos Cools cock off Steve Foster stock was 4^th fed; a De Rauw Sablon from stock off Peter Hall of Petron Lofts fame was 5^th fed on 1790.5; a Freddy Vandenheede was 6^th fed on 1790.288; with a Freddy Vandenheede x Jos Cools 7^th fed on 1790.288; another Freddy Vandenheede x Jos Cools was 10^th fed on 1789.6; well done Kev. Splitting Kev’s fabulous five were two more birds into south Derbyshire.

Davis, Wright & Sons were 8^th fed on 1790.255 with a blue hen; her sire is “Ted” who originates from Tony & Lee Painter, and is off a brother of “Van Persie”; her dam is a daughter of “31616”x  with a daughter of Tony & Lee Painter’s “Van Persie” x “Kind”; the top De Meyer hen.

Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & son were 9^th fed on 1790.1 with a blue Van Den Bulck hen from Alan Newton x Syndicate Lofts stock.

At Stretton, 7 sent 207 and chairman Phil Whetton had a good day; Phil was 1^st club on 1740 with a red Lambrecht hen, a full sister to the black cock that won Blandford OB, they are out of a red cock from the late Trevor bird and a De Zot hen.

Whilst Phil Bourke and family were sunning themselves in Majorca; freelance loft manager Steve Burke and Phil’s neighbour Dave Earp decided to send the birds as they were flying so well round home. It paid off as Phil took 2^nd & 3^rd club on 1716; 1715; both blue cocks. The first out of a Central Lofts Leo Hereman x M/M Lycett’s “Fantasia” which is a sister to champion “Eddy”; he was followed by one out of a full brother to “Eddy” when paired to a Tony & Lee Painter “Pink Panther” x Central Lofts daughter of “Blackpool Kittel”.  This makes this cock a half-brother to “Mr Fahrenheit” Phil’s top racer this season; winning 4 x 1^st and 2 x 2^nd.

Pete & Jackie Cox was 4^th club on 1767 with a cheq cock out of Ann Smith stock, from the Van Den Bulck “Kittel” lines x Vandenabeele,

It was the clubs gold ring race also, and Phil Whetton took 1^st prize, Ronnie Dakin & son runners up and Daniel Kurylo 3^rd.

At Holbrook, 9 sent 244 and Kev Matthews took the first 7, details of the leading birds in the open result above.

At Osmaston Park, 14 sent 240 and S & H W Hall were 1^st & 2^nd on 1794; 1793; Stan timing in a grizzle cock and a cheq cock to take 2^nd & 3^rd fed, details above; well done Stan and bad luck; so close to topping the fed.

Mick Stone was 3^rd on 1782 with a cheq Ceuleman cock and Mr & Mrs Alan Houldsworth were 4^th on 1776 with a blue hen out of an Ian Burnett cock when paired to a hen from Spink & Barks.

Over at Hill Ridware, 5 sent 130 and Spink & Barks were 1^st & 2^nd on 1702; 1700; the winner the blue Vandenabeele x “Safier” hen that was 3^rd club and fed from Marlborough (1); the sire is “Pegg Leg” off Pete Wightman & sons M/M Lycett Vandenabeeles x a Farrar Soontjens, the dam from Alan Devlin “Safier” blood. 

Runner up was a gay pied cock; sire off Jim Whitehouse’s “Crossbow” who also bred John Sheasbys blue pied cock that won 10 x 1^st and 3 x 1^st fed before being sold to Ireland ; the dam is “93” Phil and Daz’s top Lotterman x de Bruijn  hen, herself a winner of 6 x 1^st and 2 x 1^st fed.                                                                                                                 

Mr & Mrs Jim Whitehouse & sons were 3^rd & 4^th on 1695; 1690; the first the blue wf van Reet hen off John Sheasby stock, she was 5^th fed Marlborough (2); followed by a mealy Pitbull x Van Den Bulck cock.

At Swadlincote Town, sent 406 and Davis, Wright & Sons took 1^st & 2^nd on 1794; 1790.2; details of these birds above; well done Malc, Michael and Matt on a great first fed.

At Etwall, 7 sent 112 and Alan Peach took 1^st; 3^rd; and 4^th club on 1647; 1634 (2); the winner a dark wf cock bred by Kev Southall; followed by a blue cock and a blue hen; both Jansennes
