Burton & South Derbyshire Federation - 12-07-23

Burton & South Derbyshire Federation.

Kev Johnson makes it 3 x 1st fed this season, as he wins out of Newton Abbott (2).

Saturday July 8th saw the last race, in what has been a testing season for our old birds. 46 members from 8 clubs sent 563 birds which were liberated by Alys at 11-05 in a southerly wind, it wasn’t a straight forward race at all, with thundery showers forecast, but overall returns were good, leading birds exceeded 56 mph, but strangely there was a lot of birds arriving home around the 4pm mark into Burton?

Kev Johnson of Hill Ridware ended the old bird season where he started it, in pole position; Kev took 1st & 5th fed on 1669; 1653.0; the fed topper a yearling blue van den Bulck x Hereman hen; her sire is inbred to “Goede Rode” and “80 Duivin”; her dam is a daughter of “Man o’Chester” when paired to his own granddaughter “Dark Redemption”. The fed topper has had a tough start; she damaged her wing as a yb and was hawked both pre-season and whilst racing this season, she was too quick for Percy this time!!
