Saturday 1st July and the Burton & South Derbyshire were at Honiton and our convoyer Alys got the pigeons away at 10-50 in a west north west wind.

In Holbrook 6 members sent 97 birds and it was that man again Trevor Jennings getting a podium finish with velocities of 1577.9, with his next two pigeons both doing 1577.8. In fourth were B & S Stone doing 1575.

 Osmaston Park Homing Society had 8 members sending 65 birds with Shenton Brothers ( Ron & Norman ) taking the red card with a two year old dk/ch cock doing 1554 getting its second first prize of the season. Their winner was bred from the late Tony & Vena Childs pigeons. Taking the next three positions was S & H W Hall with three two year old hens doing 1548.2, and the following two doing 1548.1..

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 73 birds with A.Peach & Son taking three of the first four positions. His winner was a yearling dk/wf cock doing 1553 which was bred by club mate Kevin Southall and getting its third first prize. His next pigeon was a four year old cheq hen doing 1524 followed by a yearling blue hen doing 1502.In third  with a three year old mealy hen doing 1515 was Kevin Southall.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Salisbury and the pigeons were liberated at 12-00 in a west south west wind.

In Derby Premier 4 members sent 81 birds with Paul & Lynda Todd getting a podium finish and taking the red card was a two year old blue hen doing 1452 followed by a two year old cheq hen doing 1451 then a yearling cheq hen doing 1440.In fourth were L.D.S. Johnson with a dk/grizzle yearling cock doing 1421.

In Kilburn Miners Welfare 3 members sent 35 birds with Keith Foulke taking the red card with a two year old blue hen doing 1376 followed by a b/cheq cock doing 1279 to take fourth. In second was Ralph Parkin with a yearling cheq hen doing 1319 followed by Stewart Wainwright with a two year old cheq hen doing 1299 to take third.

Saturday July 8th was the last old bird race for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation as was Sunday July 10th the last old bird race for the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation. The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Newton Abbot and the pigeons were liberated at 11-05 in a light south westerly wind.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 8 members sent 94 birds with Trevor Jennings once again taking the first two positions with velocities of 1627 & 1625 making it a hat trick of 1st prizes finishing the old bird season of in fine style making it 6x1sts in total. In third was F.A.Turner doing 1609 followed by B & S Stone in fourth doing 1596.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 59 birds with Kevin Southall taking the red card with a three year old dk/ch hen doing 1607. A.Peach & Son took the next three positions with a three year old grizzle hen doing 1587 followed by a six year old cheq hen doing 1575 then a three year old black cock doing 1451.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 7 members sent 54 birds and putting the finishing touches to an excellent old bird season was S & H W Hall who took the red card with a yearling cheq hen doing 1596 making it 5 x1sts including a 1st fed, followed by a two year old cheq pied hen doing 1573 to take third. In second & fourth with a two year old cheq w/f cock doing 1578 and a yearling blue hen doing 1501 was Mick Stone.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Weymouth for their final old bird race of the season and the pigeons were basketed Saturday for a Sunday race due to the bad weather forecast for Saturday. In Derby Premier Dave Waddington took the red card with a three year old dk/ch cock doing 1787 with Paul & Lynda Todd taking the next three positions with a yearling cheq hen doing 1783.5 followed by a six year old dark hen doing 1783.3 then a yearling cheq hen doing 1783.2.
