The New North Road Amalgamation

The TNNRA held its second old bird race of the season from Thornton Park in Fife Scotland and Thornton being the home of the famous Scottish pigeon scribe of Joe Murphy and the liberation site being the fields of Thornton football club’s community pitch’s organisations for the joint liberation were from The Mid Northamptonshire Federation, The Derbyshire North Road Federation the South West of England Lerwick Club, the Welsh North Road Federation, the International Championship Club and individual clubs of Grantham and District NRFC, Cotgrave NRFC, Hucknall Premier FC, Ashby and District FC, Worksop Miners Welfare FC, Ilkeston South Section FC and Corby NRFC were all birds from these organisations were liberated together.  Again due to bird flu DEFRA restrictions not all members in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire could take part.  All the above organisations birds were liberated at 05.30 am into a strong south west head and side wind on the 11/6/22.

Pigeons from the above organisations were duplicated into the Amalgamation at the fanciers decision at £1 a bird and £963.55p was on the table for the four sections and the top ten and open positions in the four sections is as follows.

The North section top ten, claiming 1st open in the TNNRA plus 1st section plus 3rd open and 3rd section and 10th open and 10th section plus 1st, 2nd and 3rd club at Hucknall premier FC was Steve Gammon flying 229 miles all the three scoring birds for Steve were bred by Ian Brown of Pontefract were Ian himself has had some impressive results with these birds of I know from the top of my head  just reeling off 2 x Yorkshire Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire SR combine wins over 4000 bids plus many, many Northern Classic open and section wins good NFC positions and many local Normanton federation wins and positions over the years these are of Ian’s successful Jan Hoyman’s from his collection he has from his connections and John Crehan of Salford Manchester NFC winning loft birds Steve purchased the birds from Ian as youngsters and being a small back garden racing loft set up they had to go on the road and be tested so Steve raced them all as young birds and now as yearlings and these three cocks were raced on traditional widowhood system with velocities of 1177, 1162 and 1109.

2nd open and 2nd section in the TNNRA plus 1st Derbyshire north road federation and 1st Pinxton NRFC was Richard Oldham flying 229 miles Richards scoring bird already last season from Elgin City 300 plus miles achieved 2nd open and 2nd section in the TNNRA and 2nd Derbyshire north road federation he is a Louella stud Antoon Schultz crossed Richard’s old Wildesmersch strain the 2y Dark cock was  flown on the roundabout system his velocity was 1176. 4th section 4th open in the TNNRA plus 2nd Derbyshire north road federation and 1st Chesterfield Stute NRFC was Aspley & Wragsdale flying 218 miles with a 2y blue widowhood flown cock that has already achieved 6 x 1st clubs for the partnership he is a Van Loon crossed Van Lint his velocity was 1133.

5th section and 5th open in the TNNRA is Keith Orton & Son flying 226 miles also claiming 2nd Pinxton NRFC and 3rd Derbyshire north road federation with a 2y chequer hen which is a granddaughter from off their Elgin City and Thurso TNNRA two bird championship winning hen she was sent on natural sitting 14 day old nest eggs her velocity was 1131.

6th section 6th open in the TNNRA plus 4th Derbyshire north road federation 2nd Chesterfield Stute NRFC was Mick Herbert flying 211 miles with a 3y blue Gabby Vandenbeale widowhood flown cock doing 1130.

7th section and 7th open in the TNNRA plus 3rd Chesterfield Stute NRFC and 5th Derbyshire north road federation was Kevin Ward flying 214 miles with his TNNRA open Creiff winning hen in 2021 she is a 2y chequer hen flown on the roundabout system and her breeding is of Kevin’s loyal Feliex Powell Jansens from the Pickett Brothers lines that have won like this hen for Kevin over the years and seasons her velocity was 1129.

8th and 9th section plus 8th and 9th open in the TNNRA and 1st and 2nd Cotgrave NRFC was Dougie and Tommy Fisher flying 238 miles with 2 x 2y Herman Cuester hens flown on the Chaos system with velocities of 1128 and 1118.

Over to the Centre section top ten winning the section plus claiming 11th open in the TNNRA plus 1st Grantham & District NRFC was Paul Maiden flying 260 miles with a 2y red hen flown on Paul’s jealousy system and she has carded many times for Paul and is a Eric Ceuleman Crossed Soojen her velocity was 1091.

2nd section and 28th open in the TNNRA plus 1st Corby NRFC was Mr & Mrs Powers flying 271 miles with a 2y mealy hen being herself a consistent and scoring bird doing well for the partnership from Berwick in 2020 as a young bird and her sister also scoring for the partnership she is home bred by Lynn and Jack Powers and is bred from stocks birds of Staff Van Reets from friend Ian Murchison of Longtown Carlisle her velocity was 982.

2nd and 6th section plus 35th and 50th open in the TNNRA plus 1st and 4th Mid Northamptonshire federation and 1st and 2nd Harrowden FC was a name that’s no stranger to winning ways with BICC NFC and MNFC high performances and section wins to his name plus draws full of first cards is Andrew Smith now giving north road a bash for 2022 with his still timeless original Steven Van Breemen Dutch family which Andy has had for over 30 years both his scoring roundabout system flown birds were of his Breemens Andrew flew 282 miles with velocities of 957 and 922.

4th section and 39th open in the TNNRA plus 1st Corby Town club and 2nd Mid Northamptonshire federation was Ronald Fairairn flying 273 miles with a 2y blue cock flown on the widowhood system and is bred down from stock birds Ron purchased from Mick Mcmurchie of Scotland in 2012 and are Koopman and Van Dyke based he last season when flying south road achieved some minor cards for Ron his velocity for this race was 943.

5th section plus 42nd open in the TNNRA plus 1st Rushden & Raunds FC and 3rd Mid Northamptonshire federation and winning the Pool banker in the federation was Adam Freeman flying 280 miles with a 1y blue cock flown on the widowhood system and he for Adam the week previously won the club he was never raced as a youngster by Adam and his breeding is John Norris of Grantham Hartog lines from John Gerard crossed Andy Smith of Harrowden Steven Van Breemen Adam’s velocity was 940.

2nd section plus 24th open in the TNNRA plus 1st Thornbury club and 2nd open SWELC was Robert Organ flying 315 miles with a 2y blue chequer cock on the traditional natural system and is Bushart based his velocity was 997.

10th section and 51st open in the TNNRA was Szmaglik & Humphries flying 319 miles they also achieved 15th open SWELC and 3rd Thornbury FC plus 5th open 3rd section E in the International championship club yearling classic and 16th open 9th section E in the International Championship Club with a 1y blue chequer hen being bred from Steve Bennet bird crossed a J Rake De Weert flown on the traditional natural system her velocity was 919.

The Welsh section now and top ten are as follows 1st, 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th section plus 43rd, 68th, 90th, 103rd and 130th open in the TNNRA was T Hawkins & Family flying 317 miles they also achieved 21st open 12th section C in the International Championship Club yearling classic race plus 12th open 6th section C 26th open 11th section C 40th open 17th section C 48th open 22nd Section C 68th open 30th section C 84th open 33rd section C in the International Championship Club. Their 1st, 3rd & 5th birds  were bred by John Sparry who has bred National winners and has an excellent eye for pigeons but has taken a back seat from pigeons but has bred close friends a few to test and try the partnership’s 2nd 4th birds were bred by Andy Kidd who kindly gifted the partnership a few late Bred youngsters to try and all five birds were cocks flown on the widowhood system the partnership’s velocities were 937, 875, 823, 799 and 739.

2nd section plus 45th open in the TNNRA was Mr & Mrs Kevin Upham flying 316 miles also achieving 4th open 2nd section C in the International Championship Club yearling classic and 13th open 7th section C in the International Championship Club with a yearling with a velocity of 935.

4th section and 72nd open and 6th section 97th open in the TNNRA was Howells & Johnson flying 315 miles with velocities of 869 and 807.

7th section and 102nd open in the TNNRA was Kevin Williams flying 316 miles with a natural flown 5y cock that’s topped the Welsh North Road federation four times for Kevin and has bred him Federation winners his velocity was 802.
