Fougeres 2 National 1 st OPEN 1 st SECTION E Michael Lovelock from Shrewsbury with “Pam” Firstly I would like to thank Steve and Patrick for taking such good care of 1,690 birds on board the transporter on what was record breaking temperatures over this weekend. With the predicted weather forecast, the plan was always to liberate the birds as early as possible at Fougeres and with the temperature 20° at 6am Saturday morning and nothing else to hold them up the birds were away with no wind on site and an east, south easterly force 3-4 in the channel. Easterly winds and boiling hot conditions have never mixed well, so this was always going to be a testing race for them. Thank you to all the markers and helpers at the marking stations. With an outstanding performance from our Fougeres Winner taking 1 st , 2 nd & 3 rd OPEN 1 st , 2 nd & 3 rd SECTION E FLYING IN TO SHREWBURY, CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL LOVELOCK. I STARTED RACING AS A BOY IN 1968. My first prize winner was from Nick Morris known as Bourder Lad today. Started racing cocks in 1975 with great success, right through until 2001 when work took me to Belgium where I met an incredible man by the name of Astere Vergotter who taught me the ins and outs of racing hens. I started racing hens in 2006 with fantastic results, then had to pack in again. In 2016 I retired so I decided to start up again. Looking for what I thought are good pigeons I approached Eijerkamp in Holland purchasing many young birds from their top lines. The winner of Fougeres is a stefaan Lambrecht, the second hen is a Van Loon and the third hen is of the New Olympiad lines. I only have a team of 8 hens to race this year and they have performed very well so far this season. The Name of the first pigeon is called Pam after my late friends wife who past away a few weeks ago. Michael Lovelock Our next couple are no strangers to being at the top of the tree being previous Barcelona Club winners themselves and now part of the marking team at Frome 1 st SECTION B 4 th OPEN LAWRENCE and Marg Cowley from Dorchester. We timed in a four year old roundabout cock having his 5 th CHANNEL RACE – HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN THE FIRST FEW BACK, AND IS A SON OF OUR BBC NIORT WINNER. ALL the birds are fed Countrywide corn and thanks to Marg for all her help – a real partnership. We would also like to congratulate the winner and also a big thank you to Clare for all her hard work. Marg Cowley 2 nd SECTION B 5 th OPEN IS A MAN OF FEW WORDS WHO OVER THE YEARS HAS ALWAYS LETS HIS BIRDS DO THE talking Pete Hollard from Lychett Matravers. I would like to congratulate the winner and thank my mate Robbie Hooper for pushing me into sending to this race and for taking birds to marking station. My bird GB17N075479 is a 2 year old mealy widowhood cock of mainly my old family with a cross from Terry Wareham, this is the bird’s 9 th RACE OF THE SEASON INCLUDING 6 CHANNEL RACES BEING MY 1 st bird on three occasions. He is flown on my basic widowhood system with no training only home exercise when racing has started. Pete Hollard Richard Goodier & Sons from Exeter have been very consistent flyers for many years now, taking 6 th OPEN 3 rd SECTION B. I WAS OVER THE MOON TO BE 6 th OPEN FOUGERES YESTERDAY ALTHOUGH AS USUAL with me there was a bit of drama. I had three yearlings come together from the North which was a bit strange, they must have dog legged a little. They trapped in their own lofts but unbeknown to me only one had registered. It wasn't until 30 minutes later when I went to get the verification times I noticed they where not on the clock. After a mad few minutes I noticed that the cable coming from loft one to the other two lofts had been cut in two while hedge trimming earlier in the morning so the rest of the arrivals had to be caught and timed in on the pad which was working. I am very thankful that one had timed in! The pigeon which was 6 th OPEN WAS ACTUALLY THE THIRD BIRD TO TRAP, HE IS A BLUE YEARLING Vandenabeele x Ceusters racing on the roundabout system. He has been a great bird to date winning 10 th Fed Purbeck, 6 th Fed Bedhampton, 13 th Fed Brighton, 3 rd Fed Bedhampton, 10 th Fed Lyndhurst and 11 th Fed Lyndhurst and is from good race birds. The Grand sire won 4 x 1 st Clubs, 2 x 1 st Feds, 2 nd SECTION NFC SAINTES, 3 rd SECTION NFC MESSAC, 3 rd SECTION 4 th OPEN NFC CHOLET AND IS A JOS THONE. THE DAM WON 2 nd OPEN LAMBALLE, 1 st SECTION, 2 nd OPEN NFC SAINTES AND IS A JOS THONE X JAN AARDEN. THE DAM TO 4 th OPEN HAS WON 3 X 1 st Feds and 1 st Combine Brighton. The birds are all raced on the roundabout system and are Fed on a variety of Verse Laga corns to suit the up coming race Congratulations to M Lovelock who timed three good birds. Richard Goodier 1 st SECTION C 7 th OPEN BRIAN MILLARD FROM TEMPLE CLOUD. FIRSTLY I MUST CONGRATULATE THE RACE WINNER ON A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE ALSO CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL SECTION WINNERS. My bird is flown widowhood and is bred with distance in mind being bred from a blue w/f cock purchased at Wilf Reeds clearance sale when paired to a chequer w/f hen gifted to me by Stan Dangerfield – a true gentleman of our sport. Birds this year are being fed on a mixture of Verse Laga and Countrywide products. Lastly thanks to the convoyers for getting the birds home in such tremendous condition. Brian Millard Lovely to see my good friend Robbie Hooper from Poole 8 th OPEN. MANY CONGRATULATIONS ROB. My chequer yearling cock was bred from my champion perfect 10 lines which have bred winners in every generation, he scored at Messac earlier this season and is flown on widowhood always back to his hen, he has flown the channel most weeks since May. My next bird clocked was of the same lines on the Dams side crossed with a cock from my friends Clare, Martin & Jack Norman from their Andy Parsons lines. Robbie Hooper and Grandson Max In 2 nd SECTION C 9 th OPEN IS A HANDSOME PAIR OF GUYS MERV WYATT & DAVE GRAY FROM NAILSEA. (I think Merv just pips Dave on the looks). Firstly we would like to congratulate all the section winners on their performances. Our bird was raced on the natural system and sent to this race sitting 12 to 14 day eggs. In preparation for this race he had several inland races and two channel races one from Fougeres and one from Messac all with the West of England South Road Combine. He is a very well bred bird and has two grandparents that won the National, one being Gary summers Saintes NFC WINNER THE OTHER BEING PAUL TITCOMBE'S CHOLET NFC WINNER WITH OUR OWN DISTANCE BIRDS BLENDED IN. Our birds are fed on our own homemade traditional mix. We would like to thank Clare for all her hard work as secretary. Merv Gray Pulling all the stops out this season is Vincent McConnell (R & V McConnell) from Ferndown. Firstly I would like to congratulate the winner and all section winners. Noticed that the south east Dorset flyers took advantage of the south east wind on a very hot and sticky day as they’ve been doing in the Fed for the past 3 weeks. Congratulations ass kicking boys. A big thank you once again to Alfie and Nicky for taking my birds. The breeding of this yearling hen is - The cock bird was from my “step dad” John Gerald from his flo lines birds and the hen was off my good friend JJ Johannes Schoeman “the African with the mouth”, off his Hereman Ceusters paper pigeons. A Big thank you to both of these! The hen was raced on roundabout having her 5 th RACE OF HER SEASON, FED VARIOUS BITS, THIS IS WHERE another thank you goes out to GWP Macaloney “Mr Duiff” For his help. After my Classic win he told me F.O as his phone hasn’t stopped with now being a free advise line. Thank you Clair and Steve. Vincent McConnell Martin Williams from Hereford to me has been my most top fancier this old bird season with some truly outstanding performances in Nationals and Classics. Today 11 th OPEN 3 rd SECTION C. Firstly congratulations to all the winners, especially Mr Lovelock for three super birds, well done. My first arrival was a yearling hen on the roundabout system. Her breeding is my old line, 3/4 Roodhooft x 1/4 Jan Huybregts. The grandfather is “Little Joe”, a top breeder for Wade Brothers of Durham, her father is one of my best stock cocks. She has been consistent in my Combine racing. Her full sister, again as a yearling, won 5 th SECTION J, 29 th OPEN FROM MESSAC WITH THE NFC. Considering the high temperature, the birds made good time based on my earlier club birds which were only doing 46 mph from Exeter. My returns on the day were 14 out of 16. Martin Williams Martin’s yearling hen Next in to Section E Keith Rhodes from Telford 4 th & 5 th SECTION E 12 th & 13 th OPEN WHO IS always at the forefront of any result.
