Liberation on Friday 7th August was at 9,00am in a helping southwest wind with Gordon Bros & Sons of Cloighey winning 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5tj, 6th and 7th Open NIPA with 11,200 birds competing.

Mid Antrim Combine - NIPA Cloughmartin 07/08/26
The fourth young bird race of the season was flown from Cloughmartin in County Tipperary. Birds were liberated at 9.00am in southerly winds and another fast race followed. Ballymena & District lofts again had a good weekend racing taking 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th Combine etc. The winner was M Graham on 1761 who timed a blue hen bred by ace racers and breeders Paddy & William McManus of Ahoghill. This hen was bred from Peter Cran pigeons brought in last season. Runner up in Combine were last week's Combine winners Trevor Johnston & Son on 1756. Trevor timed one off a pair of birds on loan from Gary Gibson of Cullybackey. Broughshane winner Marc Neilly was next best timing two good birds for 3rd & 6th Combine. Marc's two birds were nestmates, the sire bought at N Ferguson & Son bereavement sale and dam was purchased at Beggs & Hall bereavement sale. Bertie Blair of Ballymena was 5th Combine with the same chequer hen that won 1st Ballymena & District and 3rd Combine from 2nd Kilbeggan. Bertie's hen sitting on eggs has only had two of the four races to date and has scored a 3rd & 5th Combine from them. The master is working his magic with her. Sire is a Van Den Bulck gift cock from clubmate Johnston Eagleson and the Bulck dam was purchased from Jeff Greenaway. Denis Craig was 7th Combine and 1st Cullybackey on 1729. Denis timed the same bird that won 1st club & 9th Combine from 1st Kilbeggan. This one was in a kit from Paddy & William McManus of Ahoghill and breeding is Alex Docx x Van Den Brande. Jimmy Smyth & Son won Ahoghill on 1717 and Henry Turkington was best in Kells on 1716. Henry's bird was bred from a hen purchased at Houston Bros of Randalstown clearance sale and the sire was a Davy Black cock from Joey Wright of Ballymena. William McFetridge was first in Rasharkin on 1597 with a Van Den Brande bird down from pigeons of Beggs & Hall of Larne and Ian Stewart had the winner in Randalstown. Kells members would like to congratulate the new Mr & Mrs Johnny Barkley on their recent marriage.

Mid Antrim Combine - NIPA Cloughmartin Old Bird -
The Nipa were in Cloughmartin in County Tipperary on Saturday 20th June. Birds were released at 9.00am in light westerly winds.
Gary Gibson of Cullybackey who is having an excellent season was best in the Mid Antrim Combine and also 1st Section B on 1611. Gary timed is double Mid Antrim Combine winner from the previous weeks race from Dunmanway and the Yearling National. The sire is a son of the 'Golden Couple' and dam is his good Van Den Brande hen from DCP McArdle. In the last three races the hen has won 8th Section Fermoy, 2nd Section Dunmanway, 2nd Section Dunmanway Yearling National and 1st Section Cloughmartin .
Danny Dixon took the runner up spot in the Combine and Section on 1609. Danny timed his Dunmanway winner from last weekend. Grandson of 'Heartbreaker' on one side and a grandson of his Aviary cock on the other when paired to his good Jos Cools hen.

Ballymena & District winners Johnston Eagleson & Sons were 3rd Combine & 3rd Section with their 2yo red hen that has been placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 10th Combine and 2nd, 3rd, 3rd & 16th Section plus 19th Open NIPA Fermoy 5 Bird this season. Sire was a gift cock from Paddy & William McManus being a Gert Heylen grandson of Jackpot when he was paired to a daughter of Danny Dixon's 'Champion Heartbreaker' and the dam is a self-bred Van den bulck.
