Lanarkshire News - First YB race from Wooler on 1st August 2026
The" Helter Skelter" of young bird racing is upon us with Lanarkshire back at one of its favourite race points "Wooler" in Northumberland around 75 miles back into lower Central, Scotland.
The weather this week has been very changeable and unpredictable with part of the country continuing with high temperature and other parts receiving heavy rain.
But we soldier on with the programme provided by the membership.
The numbers were down by 1,300 birds on last year’s first race entry, showing the issues fanciers are facing with their pigeons.
The convoy controlled by Paul Macaloney were released at 10 30 am in a west wind, which is a head wind of the birds flying back into Lanarkshire from the east side on England with heavy showers possible on route.
The winning pigeons hit the boards after 1hr 59 minutes for the 77 mile journey.
Three pigeons were recorded by Paul and Charlene Macaloney to record 1st,2nd,3rd North section, 1st,2nd,3rd Open federation from 1,531 birds.
The Brilliant Macaloney partnership of Charlene and Paul Macaloney take 1st,2nd,3rd Open federation with their outstanding pigeons.
What can be said that hasn't been said by myself about this fantastic pigeon fanciers.
Charlene has been very much hands on under the guidance of Paul and has developed a unique bond with her team.
The winners are all G/children of their super new strain out of Miss Golden Blizzard .

That's 7 x 1st Open federations in 14 races, setting the standards that new records with every race they compete.
Paul being Paul wasn't too happy with the overall team performance and I’m sure he will be out to rectify that in the coming races.
The partnership sent 21 pigeons recording 19 in race time when many struggled with their returns.
Well done to Charlene and Paul on another brilliant race.

George Lightbody is the winner in the west section with a mealy pied hen bred out of a Red pied C purchased at John McNeil sale.

The hen was raced on the natural system and trained with the federation transporter in build up to first race.
Barclay McCrindle & Son winner of the Centre section with a son of their GB 25 V61326 a gift bird from HBW lofts ,she was 8th sect,28th Open,10th sect,13th Open,7th sect 13th Open in 6 races.

She was paired to Rodger Moore son of Rogerke Bolt 2nd Nat Ace Yearling KBDB 2019 when he was paired to Gerda( racing machine of Eijerkamp and G/daughter of Euro, Herman Custer.
2nd pigeon over pad is unbelievable out of another bird we raced last year and full brother to 61326.
He was paired to a hen we got from Jan Van De Pasch, inbred to Jupiter, Olympic Sanne, Olympic Hurricane and is in fact is a full sister to No Limit 1st National Ace Speed NPO 2023.
Barclay was happy with the birds in a tough race.

Glasgow section-HBW Lofts of Glasgow RPA are this week’s winners with a darkness cock that was raced on widowhood, the parents were purchased from Derek Whelpton from Adam Weathalls C& C Lambrechts lines. The pedigree includes Champion Snowball and Champion Olivia.

Derek recommended we paired them together as in his own words his Golden Pair and had bred countless winners at federation /amalgamation and breeder/Buyers .The G/children of these are still topping federation in England.
2nd section is a pigeon bred as a gift from Barclay McCrindle & Son out of his Eijerkamp lines.
The partnership had a fantastic race taking the first 6 in their section.

Other news -Davie Love had a cracking start in Clarkston club winning 1st & 3rd club with two that were purchased as a kit of six on Elimar website. His 2nd & 5th were out of a John Short(Performance UK Pigeons) x Macaloney cross. His 4th club was bred by Charlie Smillie.

The race itself was the usual tricky start with a number of empty perches at night fall, but hopefully they worked in.
The Average Leader Board is as tight as two coats of paint and so all the play for over the coming weeks to see who will be crowned Lanarkshire's Champion loft 2026.
