Firstly, the Committee would like to thank you Mike and Edna Shepherd, as after more than 10 years of running Walkern marking station, Mike & Edna are now finally retiring. We would like to know if there is any member who would like to take over running the station so we can keep Walkern going.

Mike & Edna have found someone from their own Club (Chris) who has very kindly offered to open up every marking day and make sure the crates are ready to go and even stay and help load the transporter when it arrives.

All we need is for someone to mark off the members when they arrive at the station and take a log of the extra birds sent on the day. If anyone is interested please contact either Mike or Edna or myself.

The final convoy of the year saw 743 young birds and 332 old hens liberated by Steve and Pat at

7am on Saturday with no wind on site. Thank you to everyone who has offered their assistance this year at the marking stations. You are all priceless. Congratulations to all our winners this season and we hope to see you at the presentation in November. Thank you

All positions are provisional until the paperwork has been checked Congratulations to our 2019 young bird winner Paul Weems from Chippenham 1 st

SECTION C. PAUL HAS BEEN UP AND COMING FOR THE PAST FEW SEASONS, SECURING SECTION WINS AND LAST YEAR

winning his first open with the CSCFC Messac race. After receiving a phone call from Clare to learn that I had won the BBC young bird National, I had a lump in my throat and me and my partner Emma were jumping for joy.

Over the past few seasons I have been concentrating on the Classics and Nationals and perseverance has been paying off. This is a huge achievement for me, which I am truly proud of, words can not describe how passionate I am about this sport.

So... After a sleepless night, which is normal for me when the birds are away for any race whether it be Club, Classic or National, My first pigeon, a blue cock now called "Chunky's Pride" Which was sitting on dummy eggs that should have been hatching if not hatched, After 4 and a half hours he came straight out of the East which indicated to me that there was west in the wind, flown on the darkness system and feeding country wide corn. The week before he was 10

th

OPEN CLASSIC

Guernsey, previous to that he was raced in the Wilts Fed and had 4 short inland races. His breeding is 100% Syndicate Lofts. His sire is a grandson of Drum and Gerry and Outlaw and Rosen. His dam

is a granddaughter of Rhiannon and Two Twenty Amulet and sister Sphinex which I bought from my friend Shaun Shockley.

I would like to congratulate all the section winners and Martin Williams on being runner up,

CLOCKING A SMASHING PIGEON ALL THE WAY UP THERE IN HEREFORD.

And again I would like to thank my partner Emma for helping me whilst I'm at work (Which isn't very often in the pigeon season)

Lastly I would like to thank everyone who rang or messaged to congratulate me, I was truly overwhelmed.

C. Firstly we'd like to congratulate our friend Paul (Chunky) Weems on his great win, we had breakfast with Paul at the marking. The last time we ate breakfast with him at Frome marking he won the Messac Classic and we were 2 nd

, so history nearly repeated itself. Breakfasts are on you next time Chunk. Also well done to Martin Williams and all section winners this week. This was a very tough and erratic race in our part of the world. The wind turned more westerly as the race progressed and it was a strong wind too. To say we were gobsmacked by winning 3 rd

OPEN TO OUR LOCATION

would be an understatement. When we timed our blue hen we felt we were half an hour behind. You just never know when the channel is involved. Our hen had tried really hard and came home in lovely sunny conditions, our 3 rd 4

th and 5 th birds weren't so lucky as we were then under a belt of heavy rain and they were very wet but no harm was done. We timed 8/12 on the day with no more

arriving on Sunday. The 3 rd

OPEN HEN WAS OVER SITTING EGGS AND IS BRED FROM OUR VERY BEST LONG DISTANCE LINES. HER SIRE IS

a son of Bill & Beryl Lewis famous Tarbes Champion Freelands Gem 6 x Tarbes at 624miles, he is proving a goldmine in the loft. The dam is our own racing Champion, Shapway Evie. I attach a picture of Evie with a list of her amazing performances. She was the National Flying Club Ace

Pigeon of 2018 and is a full sister to G-Force our NFC Ace Pigeon 2016. This is Evie's first full year in the stock loft, so this is a very promising start. Incidentally, our next 3 pigeons were all grandchildren of Evie bred from our race team, so it looks as though her offspring like it tough exactly like she did.

Thanks to all fanciers who have taken the trouble to contact us in recent weeks with our birds winning the Guernsey Classic, 1 st

Bernie McDermott & Martin Jones from Stanford Le Hope, Essex. Bernie & Martin raced together in Walthamstow before Bernie moved to Essex in 1991 when the partnership split due to work & family commitments, with families all grown up and Martin now moving to Essex they rekindled their partnership this year in 2019. A new racing loft was built and the success is starting to come. Their first bird is a chequer tic eyed hen raced on the dark racing to the perch is bred from a son of Mark Bulled famous Legacy when he was paired to a daughter of Phil Woods of Laindon

OPEN MARK & JULIE GOWER FROM FORDINGBRIDGE. FIRSTLY A BIG WELL DONE TO PAUL

Weems on winning the race, it came as no surprise he had won because his birds have been in super form lately.

What was a surprise to me is how the race worked out with 4 of the top 5 being on the South

Westerly side of the country when there was a prevailing West South West wind!!

My first bird was a Herman Ceusters originating from Premier Stud, the sire and dam were purchased as a racing kit of young birds in 2016. The sire went on to win in the club and 1 st

SECTION

NFC and the dam winning 2 x1st Club. Sadly both were lost this year in NFC racing but I took one from the pair before racing started.

The young hen was raced in the Wilts Fed for 3 races from the South West then last week in to the

Guernsey Classic where she was my fourth bird but still only flying 2 hrs 45mins.

She was exercising well so I decided to put her in to this race. She was placed on darkness this year and as with all my young birds they are all in together and fly back to the perch.

One or two have recently started to pair up but that’s all.

I sent 10 to the race and had 6 home on the day but some of the later ones had to work with one of

them attacked by a falcon. Thanks as usual to Nick & Andy for taking my birds to the marking and Julie for having to put up with all the text instructions for letting out birds while I’m at work.

2nd section ‘D’ and my fancied Young bird in this race, was a chequer hen bred by Keith & Betty

Mott of Claygate, from his Brian Denney, Fred Dickson & Eric Cannon distance pigeons.

Keith always gifts me a pair of youngsters to test out with previously good performances over the years.

This chequer hen has already won 6 th Inter Counties Fed Lyndhurst with 1,901 birds competing

where the loft mate was 1 st

SECTION A MANNOR LOFTS (MARTIN, CLARE & JACK NORMAN) FROM SOUTHAMPTON. WE

were delighted to take the first two in the Section. Our first bird is a hen from a cross we decided to make this season to get some speed in to our distance pigeons. She is bred from a Dave Vowles of

Street Venner cock paired to a Roger Lowe hen who is a grand daughter of My Little Diamond, for me one of the best breeding hens ever to grace this Country. Her breeding successes would fill pages. This is the first bird from this cross and will now be paired directly back to our distance family.

Our second bird is a distance pigeon, her sire is bred down from Olympic Ric 1 st

BICC/BBC

Barcelona 58 th International 2013 and a Grandson of Sumo from John & David Staddon. Her dam

was bred by Roger Phillips from Guernsey and has Barcelona blood lines running through her veins.

SECTION G. I HAVE BEEN RACING PIGEONS SINCE 1955 WHEN I

was at school, with more ups than downs than ups. I have made many life long friends in pigeons, sadly many are no longer with us.

These last few seasons have not been good for me and my very good friend Kenny Abbott named my loft “Abysmal Lofts”.

My section winner Blue Chequer Pied Hen is bred from stock on loan from the Sullivan Brothers, tip top pigeon men and is from their direct Pieter Veenstra Lines, thank you Lee and Ian.

GB19N06827 – Mealy Pied Cock Firstly, I would like to say congratulations to all the winners and secondly a big thankyou to Clare,

Martin and everyone associated with the BBC (and CSCFC) for the excellent job that they all do.

My pigeon is a descendant from birds gifted to me by my 2 uncles in Shaftesbury, Bill and Bryan

Woods, when I started up 2 years ago. Bill is sadly no longer with us, but I know he would be really chuffed with this bird’s performance as is Bryan. The bird is from Roland Janssen lines and is one I bred from my Mealy Hen that won the Hants 2-bird Championship as a Young Bird last year.

Dave & Kyle Harris from Newport, Shropshire 1 st

SECTION E. OUR FIRST BIRD BEING OUT OF OUR OLD

Soontjen family containing all the old lines that have won six times in the section in the BBC, all our young birds have been flown natural, the first round are January hatched and have timed lights in the stock loft so when they are weaned they go onto natural daylight which in effect is like being on the darkness system in the early weeks, the second timed bird is from two gift birds, one from Gary

Tomlinson Who Dares Wins one loft race, the other from Kevin Doley of Telford, thank you both.

We timed three of our ten entries on the day, our third bird is out of a cock pigeon from Dave

Wawhinney and a hen off Timmy Mawhinney of Northern Ireland and had three more on Sunday,

Kyle has tended to the young birds in the last couple of season and has a good relationship with them

(often being told off for being to heavy with the peanuts). He feeds the widowhood cocks on return from training and feeds the young birds before leaving for school in the mornings, a massive thank you to Chris Whittingham who trains our birds throughout the season, without him training the birds would be very difficult, even though he is in his 80s he still makes sure we are out of bed at 04.30 each morning and keeps us on our toes. Thank you to all the officers and officials of the BBC for another good seasons racing and to all the winners who make the BBC the great club it is.

Norman and the Barcelona Club for what you do for us Channel Island Pigeon Fanciers.
