BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

Russ Bailey sweeps the board in the season finale out of Marlborough.

Saturday September 12^th saw the final race of the 2026 season, the scheduled race point was Exeter, but due to the low numbers expected; the Federation decided to race out of the Wiltshire town of Marlborough. 28 Members from 5 clubs sent 345 birds which were liberated by Alys at 08-40 in a W.S.W. wind; as expected the lofts on the east side of the Fed had the upper hand, but Russ Bailey of Ripley, flying in the Holbrook club swept the board taking the top 26 positions in the fed, timing them in a 17 second burst; a brilliant team performance.

1^st fed on1859.6 was a cheq hen off Woodroffe Bros stock. 2^nd fed on 1859.6 was a blue cock off Woodroffe Bros stock. 3^rd fed on 1859.6 was a blue hen off Richard Wolverson. 4^th fed on 1859.6 was a blue hen off Woodroffe Bros x M/M Lycett stock. These four went over the pads on the same second, so all worthy of a first prize? 5^th fed on 1859.3 was a blue wf cock off Woodroffe Bros x John Hodgeson stock. 6^th fed on 1859.3 was a blue hen off Woodroffe Bros stock. 7^th fed on 1859.1 was a blue wf hen off Woodroffe Bros stock. 8^th fed on 1859.1was a blue cock off Woodroffe Bros stock. 9^th fed on 1859.1 was a blue pied hen off Woodroffe Bros stock. 10^th fed on 1858.2 was a blue hen off Woodroffe Bros stock.

Russ would like to say a massive thank you to the Woodroffe Brothers; Albert; Fred and David; not just for the fantastic birds, but also their friendship and advice. These birds from the Woodroffe Brothers of Sunderland are mainly Leo Hereman; and Stefaan Lambrecht from Gibb and Byrne of Lisburn in Northern Ireland. Russ said every time he went to see the Brothers, they gifted him eggs off their top quality stock. Russ says they are so generous; helpful; honest and wonderful fanciers.

Around the clubs,

Starting at Stretton, where 5 sent 55 and Phil Bourke ends on a high, taking 1^st; 3^rd and 4^th club. The winner on 1743 was a blue cock; his sire from the “Magic Pair” of Mick & Adam O’Hara of Liverpool; this pairing is responsible for many winners at club; federation and RPRA award winners. The dam of the winner is “32” she’s the hen that came with her nest mate to win 1^st & 2^nd fed Honiton as yb’s. She’s bred from a brother to M/M Lycett’s champion “Eddy” and a Central Lofts “Kittel” hen. 3^rd club on 1739 was another blue cock; this one known as “Scouser Tommy”; he was lost off the loft early on after a sparrow hawk strike, and was reported by Franny McDowell in Liverpool, he took care of it and then passed it on to Lloyd & Healey of Liverpool, they are friends of Phil, and the young cock then got sent back home, so Phil sends his thanks to both parties. 4^th club on1738 was another Blue cock; this one bred by Mark Evans of Denbighshire. His sire was bred at Central Lofts off a half brother to “Young Kittel 82”; he’s a son of “Blackpool Kittel” X “Sunny”; when paired to “Miss Junior Rosita”; she’s a daughter of “Junior” x with a full sister of “Olympic Rosita”. His dam is off the Campbell & Curran cock x with Mark’s good Pied hen. Phil has had lots of winners bred by Mark Evans; Mark doesn’t race now due to the amount of Hawks and Falcons around his lofts, but he gets lots of enjoyment and satisfaction breeding winners for others.

Young Jack Bourke has had a dream of a first season, and finishes off by taking runner up spot on 1740 with a Cheq Pied Buscheart x Kris Wijnant hen. You can get back to the fishing now Jack; but only after you’ve cleaned out and tended to the birds.

Into Derby now; at Chaddesden Jubilee, 7 sent 63 and S & H W Hall take the top spot on 1852; Stan’s winner a blue hen bred by Mick Fearn. John & Steve Hicks were runners up on 1851 with a cheq Janssen hen.

Dave Waddington was 3^rd and 4^th on 1839; 1838; with a dark hen and a blue hen; both out of his stock from Alan Brassington of Stretton crossed with his Soontjen blood out of “The Bat”.

At Swadlincote Town, 8 sent 84 and Mr & Mrs Lee Clamp & Sons filled the podium; taking the top three on1850; 1846; 1843; the winner a blue wf cock; followed by a dark cheq cock and a cheq hen; all of stock from Ann Smith of Ashbourne.

Charlie Murfin was 4^th on 1839 with a mealy hen; she’s out of a cock from Dave Stone, a Futurity bird x with a daughter of Charlie’s Leo Hereman “Rossi” cock.

At Etwall, 4 sent 29 and secretary Alan Peach ends the season by winning 1^st and 3^rd club on 1778; 1769; the winner a breeder buyer from Russ Bailey; followed by a Roland Janssen .

Mick Leszczyszak was runner up on 1770 and Kev Southall was 4^th on 1749 with a Hereman cock.
