Russ Bailey dominates out of Yeovil (2)

Saturday September 5th saw the federation at Yeovil for the second successive week, and the penultimate race of the 2026 season. 385 Birds from 34 members of 8 clubs were liberated at 10-10 in a W.N.W. wind by Alys, and the lofts on the East side made hay in the westerly wind.

Congratulations to Russ Bailey of Holbrook who had his team in tip top form timing 15 birds in 14 seconds to take the top 15 in the fed. He had to wait another 42 seconds for his next, and this was good enough to take 16th fed, brilliant team performance Russ. The fed topper on 1539.3 was a blue pied hen; she’s ¾ Woodroffe bros x John Hodgeson. Runner up on 1539.3 was a Blue wf cock; again Woodroffe bros x John Hodgeson. 3rd fed on 1539.3 was a blue cock out of stock from M/M Lycett x Kev Matthews. 4th fed on1539.2 was a Blue hen from Woodroffe Bros stock.  5th fed on 1539.2 was cheq Pied hen off Glyn and Glenda Stone X M/M Lycett stock. 6th; 7th; 8th; and 9th fed on 1539.0(2); 1538.9(2); was a blue cock and three blue hens all out of the Woodroffe brothers stock. 10th fed on 1538.6 was a blue hen off Mark Williamson stock.

Around the clubs,

At Stretton, 5 sent 55 and Phil Whetton took 1st and 4th club on 1478; 1458; the winner a cheq Lambrecht cock; his sire a red cock from the late Trevor Bird off Fred Bloor stock, his dam from Matt Munslow off the “De Zot” line.   4th club was a Slatey hen off Matt Munslow Stickers -Donkers x Leideman Bros stock.

Runner up on 1475 was Jack Bourke with a mealy cock bred by the incredible Gordon Bros of Northern Ireland.  

Phil Bourke was 3rd club on 1464 with a Cheq hen bred by friend Mark Evans of Denbighshire. Her  sire a Willy Jacobs from Gerald Delaney of Ireland out of “Home Alone” who was a winner of 1st sec 3rd open; and “Golden Lady” 1st open Gold ring and dam of 3 x open winners. Her dam is from Central Lofts; she’s a double granddaughter of “Sunny”. This is the third top five finish for this young cheq hen this season.

At Chaddesden Jubilee; 7 sent 69 and Mick Stone won a photo finish, taking 1st club on 1523 with a mealy Van den Bulk cock.

John & Steve Hicks were 2nd & 3rd with two Jansenne cocks on 1522.5; 1522.4.  

Stan Hall was 4th on 1519 with a mealy cock bred by Mick Fearn.

At Winshill, 3 sent 21 and a big well done to David Neculai on taking the top three. The winner on 1485.6 was the blue pied cock that was 5th in The Anchor breeder Buyer 3 days earlier; he’s bred off stock from Clive Yates the Tamworth ace.

Runner up on 1485.4 was a cheq hen, again off Clive Yates stock. 3rd club on 1485.3 was a blue cock, his sire off Phil Bourke, and his dam is a Koopman David purchased at the Doncaster Show. 

Liam Clamp Loft 1 was 4th on 1447 with a blue hen.

At Swadlincote Town, 6 sent 62 and Mark Collins took top spot on 1447 with a blue hen  bred by Kev Matthews and won by Mark in the club raffle after Kev donated it to the club at their presentation night, she also won out of Yeovil (1) the week earlier 

Mr & Mrs Lee Clamp & Sons were 2nd & 3rd on 1440; 1403; with a blue cock and a blue hen. 

Debbie Fearn was 4th on 1400 with a blue wf hen; her sire from Davis, Wright & Sons out of their SVR/ “31616” line; and the dam is a Rondag from Tony & Lee Painter

At Holbrook, 5 sent 118 and details of their top ten appear above, as they totally dominate the fed top twenty.

Finally, at Etwall, 4 sent 34 and Kev Southall makes it fours wins on the bounce. The winner this week on 1413 is off Dave Stone stock; Kev was also runner up on 1391 with a Futurity bird bred by Ian Barnbrook. 

Alan Peach was 3rd and 4th on 1382; 1371; with a Roland Janssen; and a Janssen that goes back to the old John Stretton bloodline.

Tony Mather of Holbrook takes top spot in 2026 Breeder Buyer race.

The 2026 federation Breeder Buyer race was raced from Yeovil on Saturday September 5th. Out of the 26 birds sold; 6 made it to the race, and these were liberated at 09-50 in a W.N.W. wind. It was nice to see all 6 birds made it home and each earnt their owner a slice of the £812 prize money. That’s good prize money for a race with 26 birds in, never mind 6.  

Congratulations to Tony Mather of Holbrook, racing as Mather & Haywood, Tony took 1st & 6th prizes on 1217; 531, both cheq hens and both birds bred by himself, earning Tony £335.62, well done Tony.

Runner up on 1183 was Phil Whetton of Stretton, again it was bred by himself, and his Slatey hen won £159.70 prize money.  

Alan Peach of Etwall was 3rd on 971 with a cheq wf hen bred by Russ Bailey; earning both parties £59.55.  

Graham Evans of Castle Gresley was 4th on 665 with a dark cheq hen bred by Russ bailey, earning both £51.43 each.  

5th on 567 was Ray & Jean Lees & Millar of Castle Gresley with a blue cock bred by Alan Peach, both taking home £47.36.
