Saturday May 23rd and the race this week was from Exeter. The pigeons were liberated at 10-25 in a north north west wind. In The Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 16 members sent 126 birds and leading the way into Derby with a yearling cheq hen doing 1581 to take the red card was the man & wife partnership of Mr & Mrs A Houldsworth ( Alan & Liz ). This was followed by their second pigeon doing 1569 to take fourth. Alan & Liz got the icing on the cake topping the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation with their first pigeon. In second was Little Eaton Fancier Stan Hall who fly as S & H W Hall with a two year old cheq hen doing 1578 followed by Mick Stone with a dk/ch cock doing 1573.

Holbrook Miners Welfare had 10 members sending 141 birds with Mr & Mrs K Salt ( Ken & Hilda ) taking the red card doing 1533 followed by John Dowd doing 1532 to take second. In third doing 1527 were B & S Stone with Mick Stone ( Glenn & Glenda ) taking fourth doing 1517.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 80 birds with Kevin Southall taking the top spot with a yearling cheq cock doing 1536 with his next pigeon doing 1525 to take third. In second & fourth was A.Peach & Son with a yearling blue cock doing 1526 and a yearling cheq hen doing 1517.

It was also their ladies race with Kevin Southall getting the winner and winning a £10 special with P & S Harrison ( Peter & Shirley ) in second and Steve Billings in third.  

The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Marlborough on the 30th May for their seventh old bird race of the season. The pigeons were liberated at 08-20 in a north west wind.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 11 members sent 239 birds with Glynn & Glenda Stone having an excellent race taking the red card for the fourth time this season doing 1558 also getting a very well deserved first Burton & South Derbyshire Federation well done Glynn & Glenda. Taking second & third doing 1554 & 1550 was Russ Baily with Darren & Vicky Johnson in fourth doing 1537.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 18 members sent 205 birds with Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) taking three of the first four positions. Their winner was a two year old blue hen doing 1545 followed by a yearling mealy pied cock doing 1543 with a yearling red hen doing 1523 to take fourth. In third with a yearling blue hen doing 1537 was Mr & Mrs A Houldswoth  ( Alan & Liz ).

It was also the second of their show races with Alan & Liz Houldsworth getting the winner with a yearling blue hen doing 1537 followed by Mick Stone with a yearling blue cock doing 1499.In third was Dave Waddington with a three year old blue cock doing 1483 with Hall & Torry in fourth doing two year old mealy cock doing 1366.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 112 birds and taking the red card was club secretary Alan Peach. His winner was a yearling cheq hen doing 1534.Taking second & third was Kevin Southall with two yearling cocks doing 1504 & 1503.In fourth with a yearling cheq hen doing 1502 was the man & wife partnership of Peter & Shirley Harrison.

This week's race from Frome was put back 24 hours due to the bad weather forecast for Saturday. The pigeons were liberated Sunday morning at 10-20 in a south west wind.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 16 members sent 149 birds with Chaddesden's Dave Waddington opening his account taking the red card with a two year old blue cock doing 2023.7 also getting the icing on the cake topping the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation ( Well done Dave ). Taking the next three positions was the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ).His first pigeon was a three year old cheq cock doing 2023.3 followed by a two year old bl/pd cock doing 2020.9 then a two year old cheq hen doing 2018.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare Homing Society 9 members sent 142 birds with Russ Bailey having a good day getting a podium finish doing 2022.5,2021.9 & 2020.5. In fourth doing 2013.7 were Mr & Mrs D Johnson ( Darren & Vickey ).

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 85 birds with A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) making it a clean sweep. His winner was a two year old grizzle hen doing 2012 followed by a two year old black hen doing 2011.7 then a yearling cheq hen doing 2011.0 with a two year old cheq cock doing 1976 to take fourth.

There was also an additional race from Guernsey and the birds were liberated at 06-40 in a west south west wind In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 10 members sent 40 birds with Mick Stone taking the red card with his four year old blue cock covering the 240 miles in 3 hours 58 minutes to take the red card. In second was Dave Waddington with a six year old cheq cock doing 1734.In third was Mark Yule with a yearling pied cock doing 1727 which was given to him by Mick Stone. In fourth was S & H W Hall ( Stan ) with a two year old bl/pied hen doing 1717.

Saturday June 13th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Yeovil. The pigeons were liberated at 10-15 in a West North West wind. In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 16 members sent 178 birds which turned out to be a two loft race with Dave Waddington getting back to back wins. His winner was a two year old cheq cock doing 1531 followed by a three year old cheq cock doing  1527 to take second. In third & fourth were Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) with a yearling cheq cock doing 1525 followed by a yearling dk/ch hen doing 1523.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 9 members sent 172 birds with Glynn & Glenda Stone back in top form for their fifth win of the season getting a podium finish with velocities of 1520.6,1520.3 & 1520.1. In fourth doing 1519 was John Dowd.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 97 birds with A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) taking three of the first four positions. Taking the red card was a three year old cheq cock doing 1447 followed by a yearling blue cock doing 1436 then a five year old cheq hen doing 1429.In second with a yearling cheq cock doing 1437 was Mick Leszczyszak.

Saturday 20th June and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Yeovil a distance of 127 miles into Derby and the pigeons were liberated at 10-20 in a south west wind. Getting the first two pigeon into Derby was Alan & Liz Houldsworth who fly in the Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society where 14 members sent 179 birds. Their first two pigeons were both hens with velocities of 1597 & 1596 and were bred for them by their good friend Kevin Matthews. In third with a yearling cheq cock doing 1595 were Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda )  followed by S & H W Hall of Little Eaton ( Stan ) with a two year old bl/pd cock doing 1581 to take fourth.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 9 members sent 150 birds with Russ Bailey getting the red card also taking three of the first four positions doing 1593,1589.9 & 1589.0. In Third doing 1589.6 were Mr & Mrs K Salt (Ken & Hilda).

The weekend 27th June and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation had two races The first race was on Saturday 27th  with the pigeons being convoyed by The Heart of England Federation for their trip to Guernsey a distance of 245 miles into Derby, and were liberated at 06-45 in a variable wind. In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 4 members sent 28 birds with the red card going to Mick Stone with a two year old blue cock doing 1712 with his next pigeon a five year old blue cock doing 1631 taking third. In second & fourth with a yearling blue cock doing 1634 and a two year old bl/pied hen doing 1605 was S & H W Hall ( Stan ).

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 37 birds with Kevin Southall getting the winner a yearling blue cock doing 1700. Taking the next three positions was Mick Leszczyszak with three yearlings. The first a blue hen doing 1668 followed two cheq cocks doing 1662 & 1658.

The Saturday race from Yeovil was put back 24 hours due to the extreme heat. Sunday morning and the pigeons were liberated at 09-05 in a south west wind. In Holbrook Miners Welfare 8 members sent 132 birds with the red card going to Russ Bailey doing 1690 with his next pigeon doing 1685. to take fourth. In second & third were the man & wife partnership of Mr & Mrs Ken Salt with velocities of 1688.3 & 1688.66.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society12 members sent 99 birds with Alan & Liz Houldsworth taking the top two positions and getting back to back wins with two yearling hens doing 1681 & 1679.In third with a three year old cheq cock doing 1678.9 was Dave Waddington followed by John & Steve Hicks with a yearling cheq cock doing 1678.8 to take fourth.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 5 members sent 66 birds and it was a clean sweep for club secretary Alan Peach who flies as  ( A.Peach & Son ).His winner was a yearling cheq hen doing 1619 followed by a three year old cheq cock doing 1606 then a four year old white hen doing 1604 with a two year old blue hen doing 1603 to take fourth.

Saturday July 4th was the last old bird race for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation which was from Exeter. The pigeons were liberated at 09-50 in a west north west wind.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 12 members sent 153 birds with the red card going to Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ).Their winner was a yearling mealy cock doing 1667.In second was Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a yearling blue hen doing 1652.Taking third with a yearling pied doing 1650 was Mark Yule  with a pigeon which was gifted to him by club mate Mick Stone, followed by Mick Stone with a yearling dk/ch cock doing 1633 to take fourth.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 7 members sent 131 birds with Ken & Hilda Salt taking the red card doing 1654 with their next pigeon doing 1641 to take third. In second position went to Mick Stone ( Glynn & Glenda ) doing 1647 with John Dowd taking fourth doing 1639.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 80 birds with A.Peach & Son making it a clean sweep with a three year old b/w/f hen doing 1604 taking the red card, followed by a yearling blue hen doing 1603 then a two year old cheq cock doing 1597 followed by a yearling blue cock doing 1588 in fourth.
