Derby Notes.

Saturday 22nd August and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Frome and the pigeons were liberated at 11-25 in a north north east wind.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 7 members sent 81 birds and taking three of the first four positions was Mick Stone. His winner was a blue hen doing 1359 followed by a bl/wf hen doing 1345 then a bl/wf cock doing 1338 to take fourth. In second with a bl/wf hen doing 1345 was S & H W Hall ( Stan ).

In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 9 members sent 306 birds and it was a return to the top spot for Kevin Matthews with two pigeons doing 1372 & 1370.In third & fourth was Rob Pearson doing 1367.6 & 1367.2.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 5 members sent 46 birds with Kevin Southall taking the red card with a grizzle cock doing 1319 followed by a blue cock doing 1284 to take third. In second & fourth was A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) with a white hen doing 1298 followed by a blue cock doing 1283.

Burton & South Derbyshire Federation race from Yeovil which was scheduled for Saturday 29th August was put back 24 hours due to the bad weather forecast. The pigeons were liberated on Sunday Morning at 11-50 in a south south west wind which would indicate a very fast race. This was the case with the leading pigeons doing well in excess of 60 mph.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 9 members sent 81 birds and it was a podium finish for the partnership of John & Steve Hicks who's three pigeons were the only pigeons in the club result doing over 1900 ypm.

Their winner was a cheq hen doing 1909.4 ypm  followed by a dkch hen doing 1908.7 with a blue cock taking 3rd doing 1908.2 all three doing .In fourth was Mick Stone with a mealy cock doing 1896.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 6 members sent 126 birds and it was a very tight finish with Kevin Matthews taking the red card doing 1903.7.The next three positions went to Glynn & Glenda Stone doing 1903.3,1903.1 & 1902.6.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 45 birds and it was an excellent performance from Kevin Southall who only sent 5 birds and made it a clean sweep. His first three pigeons were two blue cocks and a grizzle cock doing 1782.4,1782 .2.1782.2  followed by a blue hen doing 1772.5. 

This week’s race from Yeovil Saturday 5th September turned out to be an excellent day for Russ Bailey who flies in Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club where 5 members sent 118 birds. Russ made it a podium finish but to add to that clocked 16 pigeons in 56 seconds to take the first 16 positions in his club. His first four pigeons were doing 1539.5,1539.9,1539.5 & 1539.2.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 7 members sent 69 birds with the red card going to Mick Stone with a mealy cock doing 1523.John & Steve Hicks took the next two positions with two cocks, A blue cheq and a cheq w/f doing 1522.5 & 1522.4. In fourth with a mealy hen doing 1519 was S & H W Hall ( Stan ).

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 34 birds with Kevin Southall getting his fourth consecutive win with a blue hen doing 1413 to take the red card followed by a mealy hen doing 1391 to take second. In third & fourth with a grizzle hen doing  1382 and a black hen doing 1371 was A.Peach & Son ( Alan ).

Saturday September 12th was the date for the final race for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation which was from Marlborough. The pigeons were liberated at 08-40-00 in a west north west wind. This saw a great finish to the season for Russ Bailey who flies in Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club where 4 members sent 114 birds. Russ took the first 26 positions in his club with all the pigeons being clocked in within 17 seconds. His first four velocities were all 1859.6.To cap a excellent season he took the first twenty positions in the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation. Excellent flying Russ. 

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 7 members sent 63 birds with the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ) taking the final red card of the season with a blue hen doing 1852 followed by John & Steve Hicks in second with a cheq hen doing 1851. In third & fourth with a dark hen and a blue hen doing 1839 & 1838 was Dave Waddington.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 29 birds with club secretary Alan Peach taking top spot with a ch/w/f hen doing 1778 followed by a white cock doing 1769 to take third. In second with a blue cock doing 1770 was Mick Leszczyszak followed by Kevin Southall in fourth with a cheq cock doing 1749.
