Derby Notes.
Saturday July 18th was the start date of the young bird programme for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation. Their opening race was from Cheltenham and the pigeons were liberated at 08-55 in a north east wind. In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 6 members sent 94 birds.
Getting the red card and breaking his novice status was the Chaddesden loft of David Coote with a blue cock doing 1212.

Taking the next three positions was the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ).His first pigeon was a cheq cock doing 1202 followed by two b/w/f hens doing 1199 & 1196.
Making his return to south road racing was Robert Pearson who flies in Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club where 5 members sent 204 birds and had an excellent day making a clean sweep with velocities of 1339,1338,1337.8 & 1337.2. This was a first class performance by Robert who took the top 20 positions in the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation Brilliant performance.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 3 members sent 50 birds with A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) dominating the result making a clean sweep. His first three pigeons were all hens doing 1182,1031 & 951 with a blue cock doing 666 taking fourth.

There was also a Guernsey race and the pigeons were liberated at 07-00 in a North East wind. In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 3 members sent 19 birds with the Little Eaton Loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ) taking the top two positions. His winner a yearling blue cock which covered the 243 miles in 6 hours 14 minutes to take the red card followed by a two year old blue cock doing 1099 then a two year old bl/pd hen doing 1051 to take second & fourth. In third was Stewart Wainwright with a two year old cheq pied hen doing 1051.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 38 birds with the man & wife partnership of Peter & Shirley Harrison getting the winner a yearling blue hen doing 1123.In second & fourth was A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) with a three year old blue hen doing 1083 and a yearling blue hen doing 1024.In third with a yearling cheq hen doing 1038 was Kevin Southall.

The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Cheltenham on Saturday 25th July once again for their second young bird race of the season. Our convoyer Alys got the pigeons away at 09-05 in a west south west wind.
Holbrook had 8 members sending 308 birds with the result being dominated once again by Robert Pearson making it a clean sweep with his first four pigeons doing 1642,1641,1640 & 1639.
In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 15 members sent 285 birds with the Chaddesden loft of Dave Waddington taking the red card with a dk/ch cock doing 1621 followed by a dk/ch hen doing 1620 to take second. In third with a cheq cock doing 1597 were Shenton Brothers ( Ron & Norman ) with Alan & Liz Houldsworth in fourth with a dk/ch hen doing 1577.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 4 members sent 60 birds with ( A.Peach & Son ) Alan getting a podium finish with a grizzle cock doing 1560.9 followed by a blue cock doing 1560.2 followed by a b/wf cock doing 1530 to take third. In fourth with a blue hen doing 1285 were Peter & Shirley Harrison.
This week's race was from Marlborough on Saturday 1st August and the pigeons were away at 08-05 in a light west north west wind.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 8 members sent 362 birds and it was back to winning ways for Mick Stone ( Glynn & Glenda ) making it a clean sweep with velocities of 1567,1566.8,1566.6 & 1566.2.Excellent days racing.

11 members sent 167 birds in Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society and opening their account for the season was the Chaddesden partnership of John & Steve Hicks with a b/cheq hen doing 1531 followed by a cheq hen doing 1528 to take third. In second with a cheq cock doing 1531.3 were Mick Willis & Family followed David Coote with a blue hen doing 1516.

Saturday August 8th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Marlborough once again for their fourth young bird race. The pigeons were liberated at 08-25 in a very light South South East wind.
Leading the way at Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club where 11 members sent 440 birds was club secretary Kevin Matthews putting up an excellent performance making it a clean sweep with velocities of 1695.5,1695.0,1694.7 & 1694.3.Also topping the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation. ( Excellent performance ) Well done Kev.

Etwall & District Flying Club had 5 members sending 66 birds with A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) getting the red card with a ch/wf hen doing 1606 followed by a blue cock doing 1565 to take third. In second & fourth was Kevin Southall with a mealy hen doing 1604 and a grizzle cock doing 1563.
This week's race 15th August was from Bath with the pigeons being liberated at 09-25 in a north wind. Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club had 10 members sending 373 birds and Russ Bailey made it a clean sweep clocking four pigeons within a second with the first three pigeons all doing 1316.5 and the fourth doing 1316.4.Getting the icing on the cake Russ took the first seven positions in the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation. Excellent days racing Russ.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 12 members sending 166 birds with the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ) getting back to back wins with a mealy hen doing 1218 taking the red card. In second with a b/pied cock doing 1211 was Willis Family. Mick Stone took third & fourth with a blue hen doing 1210 and a b/wf hen doing 1209.
In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 82 birds with Kevin Southall back in the driving seat taking the red card with a cheq hen doing 1207 with his next pigeon doing 1177.3 to take third. In second & fourth was the ever present A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) with his first pigeon a cheq hen doing 1177.5 and his second pigeon doing 1125 to take fourth.

They also held one of their show races with £100 up for grabs and getting the winner was Mick Stone with a mealy cock doing 1176 winning £40 followed by Shenton Brothers with a blue cock doing 1090 winning £25.In third was Mick Willis & Family with a b/pied cock doing 990 winning £20 and in fourth with a pied cock doing 768 was Stewart Wainwright winning £15.
