<pre><pre>Barcelona “Blue Riband” National 1 st OPEN 1 st SECTION G Lee &amp; Kevin Buddle from Dover With “Triple 2” The 128 Blue Riband birds entered by 48 members were liberated on Friday 5 th July at 8.50am. Within these 128 birds 74 of them were duplicated from the BICC in to the BBC for this race. The weather conditions in Barcelona at the time of liberation were blue skies, a south wind and good visibility with variable winds on their line of flight. I would like to thank Carol Francis and Russell Bradford for all their help and assistance. With a hard couple of days flying under their belts the birds started to make an appearance on Day 3 of the race with 4 gallant birds being timed in. First to verify was Lee &amp; Kevin Buddle from Dover. Our warmest congratulations to this father and son partnership winning the Club’s most prestigious race taking 1 st &amp; 17 th OPEN 1 st &amp; 4 th SECTION G. Our timer from Barcelona and 1 st OPEN, 1 st SECTION G IS A 4 YEAR OLD COCK WE CALL ‘TRIPLE 2’. AFTER being paired in early February and raising a pair of babies his hen was taken away after sitting between 5-8 days on their second round. After this he has been flown all season on our Widowhood/Roundabout type of system, where the cocks &amp; hens only get to see each other and run freely for an hour or two on return from the training races with the BICC, BBC, EECC &amp; Local CLUB. THEY ARE ONLY PUT TOGETHER BEFORE RACE MARKING WHEN IT COMES TO THE INTERNATIONAL RACES. Feeding here is very simple with every pigeon getting the same mix 7 days a week. It is made up of 50% Versele-Laga Superstar Plus &amp; 50% Vanrobaeys Best Allrounder, with a few fatty seeds given the last 5 days before marking. In preparation for Barcelona ‘Triple 2’ flew the following races- Bedhampton 4 th May, BICC Alençon 11 th May, 25 th May EECC Fontenay &amp; 8 th June BICC Cholet. Our 2nd pigeon from Barcelona is a 6 year old hen flown on widowhood come roundabout system, she flow Barcelona last year but just out of race time, she had the same preparation races has the first bird and she is out of our two good racing and breeding hen Amoy when she was paired to BC both these birds were first and second Pau in 2009, Amoy is the Dame to both the birds we clocked from Barcelona. Lee and Kevin Buddle The next three arrivals on Day 3 were by our Patron Mark Gilbert from Windsor 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , 5 th , 9 th , 10 th , 16 th , 19 th &amp; 20 th OPEN 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , 5 th , 6 th , 8 th , 9 th &amp; 10 th SECTION D. THE FIRST ARRIVAL IS a three year old cock. He has been a very consistent bird. He was one of my main fancies and is a half brother to last years Barcelona winner “Southfield Hugo”. His father is a son of “New Witenbuk” 1 st Dutch National Barcelona 6 th International and his mother is from “New Laureaat” 1 st International Barcelona. The second bird is a four year old hen. She has never failed at an International race. As a yearling she was 23 rd St Vincent and 1 st SECTION 8 th OPEN PERPIGNAN. AS A TWO YEAR OLD SHE WAS 30 th Pau and 7 th OPEN MARSEILLE AND AS A THREE YEAR OLD SHE WAS 11 th OPEN BARCELONA AND THIS YEAR SHE IS 10 th OPEN. The third and fourth arrivals are also grandchildren to “New Laureaat” 1 st International Barcelona. Previous Blue Riband Winner Tony Stephens from Poole is in 6 th OPEN 1 st SECTION B. THE BIRD I timed in from the Barcelona race is a blue chequer hen. She was the only bird I sent. She has flown well for me - as a yearling she was 52 nd OPEN IN THE PAU CSCFC. AS A 2 YEAR OLD SHE WAS IN THE Tarbes&#039; National and last year went to Palamos and returned on the Tuesday. This year her last race before Barcelona was the BBC Cholet race where she finished 208 th OPEN. SHE IS BRED FROM BIRDS from the House of Arden. Congratulations to everyone who timed. Both of my first two pigeons timed have the same dam but different sires, parents of all three hens are George Burgess from Wraysbury, big thank you to George. The pigeons he bred for me are all cracking pigeons. Sent three of George’s and got all three. THE BIRD I CLOCKED WAS A Deweerdt x. The sire was purchased from a D &amp; D McFadden sale. She flew our race programme last year as far as Bordeaux, this year she has flown St Malo, Rennes &amp; BBC Cholet. She was raced on the roundabout system and fed on Gem Red Ruby widowhood mix. Richard Mauger After their fine performance from the CSCFC Tarbes race Stewart &amp; Janet Guy from Tadley achieve 14 th OPEN FROM BARCELONA. GB15N50811 BLUE BAR HEN. IN 2011 TONY COWAN WAS auctioneer at a clearance sale of pigeons from the loft of Mr &amp; Mrs G Bates &amp; Son after Mr Bates had passed away. These birds were from the families of Jim Biss, Fear Brothers and Kenny Hine who at the time were all leading names for long distance racing pigeons. We purchased several birds at this sale and have bred stock from them. This bird was bred from this family in 2015 and has been sent to many different distance races before this year. In 2019 she was sent to our Camrose club race from Battle in the Southampton Federation and also their Coutances race. In June this year she was sent to the BICC Cholet Race. We entered three birds into this year’s Barcelona race - the most we have ever sent. Having spent four days waiting for birds on Wednesday 10 th July I was asked to help my son-in-law who is a local farmer to wash the combine to prepare for the coming harvest. Whilst in the middle of this my daughter Jenny appeared in a hurry to tell me that Janet was dealing with a Barcelona pigeon. This bird had given everything and was sitting in the nest bowl with its mate. So, all the hard work during the season had been rewarded in this very special race. Well done to everyone who clocked in, especially our friend David Goddard. David and I have been friends since 1968 when we flew together in the Tilehurst club in Reading. So we were more than pleased when he rang to say he had clocked in a very good bird, With his outstanding performances over the years David is the man to beat when talking Barcelona races – I have never met a more dedicated fancier when preparing his birds for this race. Now with the additional partnership added of Wilcox, Rob Brooks and Stuart Wilcox are 1 st SECTION C 15 th OPEN. Our pigeon Mendip Mo was 3 rd SECTION 23 rd BICC Barcelona last year, now winning BBC Barcelona Section C this year. Father was 5 th OPEN PAU AND mother is a sister to two Pau Section winners. He came so close in 2016 taking 2 nd OPEN I AM CONFIDENT THE WIN IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FOR PAUL BAKER FROM SEAFORD 18 th OPEN. I BROUGHT BOTH THE DAM AND SIRE FROM BLACKPOOL SALES IN 2010. THE DAM FROM LINES OF Snydale Express and the sire is a direct Jan Theelan pigeon. “Crimson Tide” has flown in 22 channel races, including - Barcelona twice once in 2015 with BICC where he was 51 st OPEN, AND ONCE THIS YEAR 2019 PRIVISIONALLY 17 th OPEN, 5 th SECTION. HE WENT TO Palamos in 2018 and was 18 th OPEN, 7 th SECTION. HE ALSO FLEW THE EXTREMELY TOUGH ZARAGOZA IN 2017, getting home just out of race time. He has only had one year out due to injury which was 2016, otherwise he has been one of my most reliable birds.
