Guernsey OB National 1 st OPEN 1 st SECTION B Mel & Sue King Of Blandford Forum Our race from Guernsey would not have been able to go ahead if it wasn’t for the kindness of Peter Gretton and the South Coast Fed who loaned us one of their vehicles to use. Thank you so much for all your help it is very much appreciated. We must also thank Pat Harris and Martin Norman who worked tirelessly the week leading up to the race to make sure we had everything ready to go for Thursday marking and also for Pat’s patience in making sure the conditions were right for liberating along with Mark and Steve. Grateful thanks also to all the marking stations and helpers who were working with a skeleton crew on Thursday, with special thanks to Dick and Terry from Bovingdon who had a very drawn out trip with the birds down to the south coast and back again due to the traffic. The convoy of approximately 1,400 birds made its way across the Channel arriving in Guernsey on Friday. From the moment Pat arrived on site he was greeted by our friends in Guernsey who took excellent care of him making sure he was fed and watered and keeping him company. Thank you, Nigel and Glen for all that you did for Pat. You cannot ask for a better bunch of guys who look after all the Convoyer’s so well when they visit. (no wonder the Convoyer’s never want to come home). The North Easterly winds still will not give in this year, so you know any race will be a hard one for the birds. After a long wait for conditions to improve on Saturday the birds were finally away just after lunch. (Race & Weather Advisors – Steve and Mark) The birds were liberated at 13: 35 under blue skies into a strong E/N/E wind. The Channel is clear and visibility good. Generally winds are from the E/N/E averaging speeds of 20 mph but sometimes will gust higher. Mel and Sue King with Grandson Archie The amount of National and Classic races our winners have won is phenomenal, our warmest congratulations to Mel & Sue King 1 st OPEN 1 st SECTION C. I WANT TO START BY CONGRATULATING EVERYONE THAT GOT birds home on what I found a very tough day racing I sent 7 pigeons, clocked 1 in good time, she is bred here by myself from Samson/Better than Bolt lines and I gifted her to my mother in law as I’m not a lover of pied pigeons. This hen has been consistent over the 4 years owning her, I race roundabout system with 6 cocks 10 hens, she has done us proud in the section being well clear and I also won the Club yesterday by 40 yards clear being longest flyer in the Club in a head wind. JJ Schoeman and Shirley May Pete Barlow 10 th OPEN PETE BARLOW OF COOMBE HILL. MY PROVISIONAL 10 th OPEN GUERNSEY IS A 4 YEAR OLD BLUE PIED hen bred by Graham Clift of Gerritt Lahuis lines, came well trying hard. Congratulations to Mr & Mrs King and all section winners and well done to race controllers. 2 nd SECTION B 11 th OPEN JOHN HALSTEAD OF GILLINGHAM WITH A CHEQUER YEARLING HEN SITTING EGGS FOR 7 days and having her first race of the season. This year she has only had 4 training tosses, the furthest being 20 miles, and has been brought along slowly due to the hawk problems that seem to be worse than ever in April and early May. She is bred from a pair of Jelle Jellema birds purchased from Mark Gilbert with Zwart Goud, Snelle Jelle, Silvie, and Mark’s Agen BICC winner in the pedigree. This hen had only 2 young bird races both from Guernsey and she was 14 th SECTION WITH THE BICC AND 15 th SECTION WITH THE CSCFC. HER NEXT OUTING IS LIKELY TO BE “UP IN TRIP” FROM FRANCE. 2 nd SECTION D 12 th OPEN STEVE & PAUL KULPA OF READING. Firstly we’d like to congratulate the winners and also Roger for winning the section and also like to mention the race control team who held their nerve yesterday and got the birds away on a testing day. As I write this we have 21/24 home. Our first bird is 3 year old Hereman Ceuster hen. Her sire is an inbred double great grand son of Eijerkamps Nieuwe Olympiade. He was retained for stock in 2017 and has gone onto breed a number of club and fed winners. The dam to our hen was bred directly by Eijerkamp and was a grand daughter of Euro. Sadly she passed away in January this year. All our birds are fed on Versele Laga corn and Aviform products in the water. This was our first race with the BBC as we only joined just before the scheduled Wadebridge race. We will look forward to flying with the club again in the future. John Halstead Steve & Paul Kulpa with Charlotte Kulpa 1 st SECTION G TOMMY SPARKS & PAULINE DALLAS OF GRAVESEND. THE SECTION WINNER WAS BRED BY BRANDON Webb of Wales, because of its ring number 28007, Pauline named the pigeon Welsh Bond. He had already won as a young bird and also won the club two weeks ago. His breeding on the Sire side is Van-Loon. His dam is from a pigeon called the Fed Cock bred by Norman Sibley. Pauline and I would like to thank Brandon for breeding such a good pigeon. 2 nd SECTION A CHRIS BENNETT OF HORNDEAN. MY SECOND SECTION A IS A VANDENABEELE THAT I PURCHASED from Mellonby, Knowles and Simpkin. He’s through the lines of Rudy and Geeloger. Been lightly raced this is only his third race . Well done to Mr & Mrs King on a hard day and all the section winners. Also thanks to the team for all your hard work. Tommy Sparks & Pauline Dallas Chris Bennett’s Cock Bird 1 st 2 nd & 3 rd SECTION J JOHN & THERESA GLADWIN & JARVIS OF LEIGH ON SEA. I SENT 21 TO THE RACE THESE were in the main pigeons I wanted for the longer races. Seeing the wind direction and how strong it was, I knew it was going to be a very tough fly into Essex. I was very pleased how they come having 12 on the night between 19:30 and 21:10 with 5 more early in the morning and 1 late in the afternoon giving me a total 18 from the 21. My first one is a yearling hen she scored in the Thames both as a YB and this season, before this section win. She is from our new long distance pigeons, my second pigeon is a 2 year old hen which was my first pigeon in the Thames the Saturday before, she is a granddaughter of D'Artagaian, my 3 rd pigeon is a Frans Zwols cross long distance lines and was my first bird from UBI combine Wadebridge 3 weeks ago. I must say the birds through having a very tough fly, looked in great condition on return and at least all the day birds will be heading back this coming weekend either to the BICC or UBI combine races. A big well done to everyone in a hard race and to the race controllers on having the patience to wait for the best part of the day to liberate. 2 nd SECTION G MICK & LYN CHAPLIN OF WOKING. IS A YEARLING WIDOWHOOD COCK HAVING HIS 7 th RACE OF THE season having the previous week been 24 th Fed. As a YB he won 2 x 1 st , he is bred from our No1 stock pair of Burgher Wildermeersch who are responsible for most of our winners.
