BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

Alan Stretton of Swadlincote Town makes it 3 x 1st fed in 2026 as he takes the honours out of Yeovil (3).

For the third visit of the season to the Somerset town of Yeovil marking was put back 24 hours due to the intense high temperatures during the week.

The forecast of a cooler night on the Saturday would mean more comfortable conditions for the birds, and it was a much cooler day on the Sunday for racing.

Birdage was down this week due to the Guernsey race the same weekend, 48 Members from 7 clubs entered 727 birds, which were liberated by Alys on Sunday June 28th at 09-05 in a SW wind.

Normally I’m fairly good at estimating the eta for the birds, but this week I was way out. I was expecting the birds to exceed 1900ypm, but they fell way short of that, reaching the high 1600’s. What I didn’t realise, was that the wind was virtually dead west for the journey home, it turned out to be a very good race, with the leading birds spread about, with a very close result, about 70 seconds covering the top twenty.

Congratulations to Alan Stretton of Swadlincote Town who makes it 3 x 1st fed this season with is old birds, well done Alan. Alan’s winner on 1691 was a yearling blue cock; his sire off Mark Williamson is a Leo Heremans x Flanders “Beauty”; who is out of a daughter of “Butler’s Son” x “Justus Beauty”. His dam is off Geoff Farmer’s fed topping CWL Heremans.
