2026 Futurity race sees Mark Nesbitt take top spot out of Yeovil.
The federation’s 2026 Futurity race took place from Yeovil on Sunday August 30th, low pressure and thundery heavy rain put the race back 24 hours. 231 Futurity rings were purchased and the two sales raised £8090, after the federation took their 20% out; fanciers were racing for a staggering £8320; a great effort. Special thanks to our secretary and convoyer Alys for all her hard work and to Graham Evans for covering the cost of the rings. Very special thanks to all the members from outside the federation for participating, to the members who helped with the show pens at both sale venues; and to our members who participated, the success of the event is all down to you.
Back to the race and 72 birds entered by 23 members were liberated at 11-20 in a S.S.W. wind and the birds romped home. The leading eight birds were all into the Rugeley area; on the West side of the fed.
Taking top spot on 1797and over 2 and a half minutes clear; was Mark Nesbitt with a cheq Van den Brande hen bred by Rich Jones, earning both parties £1040 each.

Runner up on 1759 was Brian Leadbeater with a home bred blue cock, the sire of this cock is out of “Mr Specialized” x “Golden Lady 2” ; his dam is a daughter of “Banksy” x “Kira” from Pipa; giving Brian Prize money of £1248. 3rd on 1752 was Brian Leadbeater again; with a blue Luc Vervoort cock bred by Alex Spence of Bromsgrove; earning both fanciers £416 each. 4th on 1745 was Brian Leadbeater again, this one a red Luc Vervoort hen bred by Barry Jones off Alex Spence stock; earning both fanciers £332.80 each.

Taking 5th spot was last year’s winners Mr & Mrs Jim Whitehouse & Sons on 1741 with a home bred blue Luc Vervoort cock bred off stock from Alex Spence of Bromsgrove. His sire out of “Blauwe Luc” and “Fire Eyes”; his dam out of “Blue Ace” and “Golden Lady”; Jim picked up £582.40.

6th on 1739 was Mark Nesbitt with a home bred cheq hen picking up £582.40.; she’s the same way bred as the 2yo dark hen “Ada”; her sire is off the Leo Hereman cock “Tommy” and her dam is a granddaughter of Adam Wealthall’s champion Lambrecht “Snowball”. “Ada” is a winner of 4 x 1st fed and 1 x joint 1st fed with a Loft mate. 7th on 1731.8 was Mark Nesbitt with another cheq Van den Brande hen bred by Rich Jones, earning both lofts £291.20 each. 8th on 1731.3 was Mark Nesbitt again with a home bred cheq hen picking up £582.40; she’s off a son of the top Hereman Champion “Isla”.
Up into the top end of the fed now, and Kev Matthews of Holbrook took 9th spot on 1700 with a home bred mealy hen earning Kev £582.40. She’s out of a grandson of Jos Cools “Winnetou”; paired to a double granddaughter of Patrick Boeckx “Strik”. A full sister to this mealy hen was 2nd in the 2024 Futurity race.

Taking 10th on 1686 was Phil Bourke of Stretton with a blue hen bred by Mark Evans of Denbighshire, earning both lofts £291.20 each. Her sire is out of a Leo Hereman cock bred by Kev Parsons; he’s a son of “De Govenor” which was sold for £25,000 Euros; and “Sister Bolta”; when paired to a Vandenabeele direct from Mark Evans out of “Golden Major” x “Lady Producer”. The dam of the blue hen is from Mark’s “Jackpot” cock and his good pied hen, both originating from Central Lofts down in Essex.

The fed also operated a pools option for both breeder and buyer this year, Rich Jones took home £140 for the first breeder, with Brian Leadbeater taking the remaining £65.
In the Buyers pools; Mark Nesbitt took the first slice of £140 with Brian Leadbeater picking up the remaining £230.
Total prize and pools paid out was £8895.00
