The young birds were in Fermoy in county Cork for their fifth race of the season. The NIPA liberated at 9.15am in light north westerly winds and a tough race followed. Some 8,800 birds were competing and 1st Open NIPA was won again in the City of Newry, congratulations to the winner John J McCabe of Newry & District on velocity 1394 ahead of Jeff Greenaway Hills & Maze, former Kings Cup winners Mark Maguire & Son of Newry & Dist., and previous 1st Open winners from the same club J F McCabe & Sons.

The young birds were in Fermoy in county Cork for their fifth race of the season. The NIPA liberated at 9.15am in light north westerly winds and a tough race followed with large gaps in arrivals and many youngsters spending the night on roof tops. Trevor Johnston of Ballymena & District timed at 13.43pm to record 1324 and win 1st Mid Antrim Combine, 2nd Section B and 24th Open Nipa 8888 birds. Trev's winning cheq hen was his first bird from Cloughmartin last weekend winning 2nd Combine. She is bred from a pair of birds on loan from Gary Gibson of Cullybackey. 2 x 1st Combine wins and 1 x 2nd Combine for Trev in the past three weeks.

Runner up in the Combine was the Cullybackey winner Gary Gibson on 1313. Gary timed the same red cock that won 1st club and 3rd Combine from Benamore a fortnight ago. The sire is a son of the Superace 494 and the No1 daughter of the Golden Couple. The dam has won 4th Section Bantry National and she's from the Cullybackey club old bird of the year and 1st Section Dale YB National hen 2024.

Fourteen year old Ethan Johnston of Ballymena & District was 3rd in the Combine on 1287. Ethan who is the grandson of Trevor has only started racing young birds this year and has his best result to date. The youngster was gifted to Ethan by Monty Magill and is from a son of Monty's good Soontjen cock when paired to his tame hen.
Keith & Callum Kernohan of Ballymena & District had a good racing winning 5th, 7th, 8th & 9th Combine and lead the Combine young bird points at present.
Anthony McNeill was best in Randalstown on 1263, John and Mark Milliken win Rasharkin on 1213 with a Lambrecht bred by clubmate Willie McLean.
