SECTION D

Roger Lowe from Reading With “Fast Red” & “Blue Lightning”

With a good entry of just over 2,700 birds sent by 276 members, our first hop across the channel was to

the Cathedral City of Coutances. After waiting for a window of opportunity in the weather due to the scattered rain in France and parts of the channel, the birds were liberated at 9.25am with a light variable wind on site. The winds in the channel were forecast north westerly and south westerly with parts of the

UK turning south east in places. With 700 extra birds sent on the day of marking, the marking stations were very busy. On behalf of us all thank you to everyone who helped and to the members for your patience.

Please could all members using ETS make sure any previous races are cleared from the clock before arriving at the marking station. By not clearing previous races holds the marking up for everyone else. It is not the BBC markers responsibility to clear any members ETS clock. Thank you.

Also for members using Penkridge marking station, as of Thursday 7 th June there will be a designated parking area for BBC members to use. I have been asked by Monckton Recreation Centre if we could make sure we use this area only.

All positions are provisional until the paperwork has been checked.

The winner of the Coutances National is a household name in National and Classic races and must be leading the British Barcelona Club table on 1 st

partnership this year from our dad’s old loft location at Dawley Bank, Telford.

Our first timer is a 2 year old blue cock the sire of this pigeon is down from pigeons Gene purchased off J Gibbons of Sunderland from Jim’s old family. The sire was a successful racer for Gene winning many channel races in Dawley HS through to Saintes 485miles and this pigeon also scored in the NFC. The dam is a Gaby hen from Jack Walker stock.

The pigeon is pooled £5 open and section and was in excellent condition on arrival.

this race sitting 5 day eggs whilst feeding ready to wean youngsters. The sire is bred down from my own family of birds, the dam was obtained from my good friend Dave Vowles of street. This season in preparation for this race he has had 3 inland races from

approximately 60 miles and the BICC Falaise race. I would like to congratulate the winner Roger Lowe and all section winners on their performances.

OPEN MR & MRS NIGEL SHAW FROM BASFORD. OUR FIRST BIRD IS A YEARLING BLUE

Ceuster hen bred for us by David Sara. She has won Audlem HS twice and won the

Saltney Open Race by a clear 30 minutes from Carentan as a young bird. She was our fancied pigeon and was pooled all the way.

The hen that arrived with her was another blue Ceuster that won the Club from Carentan as a young bird and she was also bred by David Sara.

OPEN AND THEIR SECOND BIRD THAT WAS TIMED WITHIN TWO MINUTES OF THE FIRST.

Their first timed "88" is a three year old flown on widowhood and has been in good early season form, he is a Soontjen through the old lines of the "Gauty Cock" the father of the loft. Their second timed is also a three year old widowhood cock and is also a Soontjen being a grandson of the Gauty Cock but also has Corneel Birtells on the dams side. He has been a consistent bird over the last two years, being placed at Club and National level.

Kyle feeds the cocks in the mornings as well as looking after the young birds, whilst

Megan assists in loosing them out for their afternoon exercise. Thanks to both for their help.

Dave would like to thank his good friend John "Jack" Whittingham who has helped and advised over the years and takes the birds to the marking stations.

Dave & Lisa Waterhouse from Portsmouth take 1 st

SECTION A. CAN WE FIRSTLY

congratulate Roger Lowe on winning 1 st

OPEN BBC COUTANCES, AND ALL THE OTHER WINNERS.

The cock is now named “The Minstal” as he’s a dark pied. He is bred from my Jacob

Poortvliet birds crossed by Leo Hermann. He is raced on roundabout and fed on super power corn. Hoping he stays in condition for the National next weekend.

Can I also congratulate Jason Ross, Wearn Bros 1 & Neilson and Garry Moody on their top

POSITIONS IN THE BBC AS WE ALL ARE MEMBERS OF THE PARADE INVITATION CLUB.

Big well done to Clare, the Convoyers and the Committee.

Dave Waterhouse Jason Ross’ Chequer Cock

2 nd

SECTION B IS JASON ROSS FROM PORTSMOUTH. I WOULD TO CONGRATULATE ROGER ON YET

another BBC win, great flying yet again. And Dave and Lisa Waterhouse for winning the

SECTION.

Also a big thank you to Dave Waterhouse for taking my birds to the marking, as I was busy at work. Even though my results have gone downhill, as the last time Dave took my birds for me I won the NFC Saintes race.

My pigeon is a Vandenabeele cock raced on roundabout and has been very consistent as he was my 1 st bird from the Classic and the BICC this year and was also 7

th

OPEN FROM THE

BICC Falaise last year, plus has been very consistent in the club. I would also like to say well done to my club members, the parade superstars on some great results this weekend.

The Parade Superstars Dave Waterhouse, Erik Neilson, Jason Ross & Garry Moody

2 nd

SECTION C MARTIN WILLIAMS FROM HEREFORD. CONGRATULATIONS TO ROGER LOWE ON HIS

win, and also to Phil Newton for winning our section. My first bird is a 2 year old celibate hen, my old Hybrects x Roodhooft. Having ten spare hens this year, she was put aside, locked up and not trained. She only exercised when I put my main team on the roundabout three weeks ago.

She went straight into a race from Yeovil, and then Kingsdown. I noticed she was in the clock early both weeks, so the decision was made to send her to the BBC. She came on a good line, but dropped onto the roof, rather than straight through open doors which my roundabout birds normally do. It didn’t take too much persuasion to get her in.

My team came well, having 3 in 5 minutes, and 11 out of 12 by 3.45. With thanks to the

convoyers for a good first race.

Martin William

1 st

SECTION G IS MIKE ARMITAGE FROM ASH. MIKE IS ONE OF THE HARD WORKERS FOR THE SPORT

always trying to promote pigeon racing. The pigeon he timed is a yearling blue chequer cock who has already won other inland races as well.

Mike Armitage with Lexi & Paul

1 st

SECTION B CHRIS LAKE FROM POOLE. I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE THE WINNER ROGER LOWE

on another fine performance. The Section B winner is a two year old Janssen blue widowhood cock by the name of

‘Blue Raviky’. He was bred from my winning Janssen family which I have cultivated for over three decades.

He has had two races this year with the Dorset South Road Fed from Exeter and Carentan where he came seventh in the Upton Pigeon Club from which I race.

I would like to thank all the committee of the BBC on a difficult race weather wise and a good race for returns.

SECTION G MR & MRS DARREN & SARAH MAY & SON FROM WEST ASHLING. FIRSTLY

congratulations to all the winners and runners up. Our 2 nd

SECTION G, 30

th

OPEN WINNER IS A BLUE YEARLING COCK BRED FROM A SON OF OUR BASE

breeding pair “Spider-Man” (son of “Rossi & Spinneke”, Leo Heremans.) and “Avelange” (direct daughter of “Euro x Roulette”, Leo Heremans) when paired to a daughter of our base breeding pair.

This is only his second race, he is raced on widowhood and trained regularly from the coast.

Our 4 th

SECTION G WINNER IS ANOTHER HEREMAN-CUESTERS BLOOD LINE. OUR 5

th & 7 th

SECTION G

winners are both Belgium pigeons bred by vermeerbergen-Wilms, from Mol, Belgium.

Josh & Hollie May

Brian Young from Bournemouth 2 nd

SECTION B. I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE THOSE WHO

have won prizes, but what’s more important are those who send to every race, and support

the BBC. I’m 79 going on 50!!, but its encouraging when the birds you have sent get a

decent result now and again. My methods are simple now, I only keep the unlucky 13 widowhood cocks and feed Versa Laga corn and can then give them indvidual attention.

These birds will race up to Messac and one or two will go to Tarbes or Bergerac.

Last year was a good year for me, I can’t expect to match that again this year. The pigeon in question was a gift bird from Terry Wareham, it’s a de Rauw Sablon which is now 4 years old.

I appreciate all the work Clare, Martin and all Officers do to keep the BBC running smoothly.

Brian Young

1 st & 2

nd

SECTION J MARK BULLED FROM HARLOW I TIMED TWO WIDOWHOOD HENS FOR

provisional 1 st and 2

nd

SECTION.

Both were wet through, as it started raining in Essex at about 12 noon and got wetter and wetter as the day wore on resulting in very poor returns over this side.

My first timer is a gift from Mark Sands, Kent. A Staf van Reet. Mark bred the dam to my top cock Rocky who won 1 st and 2

nd National and this hen is from the same cock. She has won the club previously both inland and across the channel.

My 2 nd hen is another consistent timer and is a direct daughter of my other BBC Winner

“Eastbourne”.

Mark Bulled

Up next in Section J is John & Theresa Gladwin & Jarvis from Leigh on Sea. My first pigeon today is a Formula 1 lofts yearling Frans Zwols cock which is steeped in a long line of winning bloodlines. Both parents were bred for stock with the sire being bred direct

from two Combine Winners, one from Thurso 512 miles and the other from Falaise 187

miles. These were paired together as they were not only both Combine Winners for me but they both had the same grandsire which was “D'artagain”. The dam of my first bird is also a granddaughter of “D'Artagain” and “Tip Top Junior” being direct from “Tip Top 076”.

Can I also say a big thank you to my Dad who took the birds to marking and broke down on the way and also to the Brighton marking station who kindly waited for my Dad to be picked up and took to the marking station by my brother. Many thanks all much appreciated.

John & Theresa Gladwin

Convoyers Report Thursday 10th May: The birds were fed and watered on the docks before boarding.

Friday 11th May:

Arrived at Coutances at 9:00 am and the birds were watered, at 2:00 pm the birds were fed

and re watered. I gave Roger a call at 6:00 pm and he told me that there may be a window

in the morning between 8 and 10 but with cloud cover but good all the way to GB.

Saturday 12th May: Dawn broke to full low cloud cover and no wind. By 7:00 am the low cloud had lifted but still complete high cloud cover and no wind. the information was that things were improving to the West and the Channel Islands.

After numerous calls to the mainland and the skies a lot brighter I made the decision to liberate at 09:25 with no wind on site, all the birds cleared the site without exception but when the birds were about three miles to the North they broke into three batches and began to wheel but after a couple of minutes they were out of sight.
