Young Bird Winners AA Old Bird Winn er Mellonby, Knowles & Simpkin T Haley of Bridlington of Abbots Langley

After a peregrine strike on site at Ashbourne on Saturday morning a quick decision was made to move the birds to

Ilkeston liberation site where the 1,300 birds were liberated at 9am. (Clive Merrills – Race Advisor) Liberation from Ilkeston was at 9am in a light SW breeze. Sunshine with a few white clouds. They cleared in one batch immediately south.

The route is clear with sun but some cloud in the west. The wind is from the SW light but increasing to 10 to 15 mph

as the day progresses. Our thanks and gratitude to all the I/C’s, markers and helpers on Thursday. Also to Andy Parsons, Clive & Jill

Rogers and Anner Smith.

Congratulations to our Young Bird and Any Age Old Bird Winners Mellonby, Knowles & Simpkin & Terry Haley.

Our first arrival was a blue white flight Hartog darkness hen, sent sitting 8-day eggs. She was a gift from our good friend Mike Hales from North Wales. Mike has supplied us with some good prize winners over the last couple of

seasons, usually on the more testing races. We had 9 of our 11 entries home to race another day.

Reared on the darkness system but left to pair if they want. He had one race from 70 miles 2 weeks ago and lightly

st Section D Terry Haley of Abbots Langley. First of all congratulations to my old friend Kerry Mellonby for another wonderful performance, to get his young birds to break out and win against the main drag of birds going south and west of him!

Also to John Adams who once again had a multi drop of Young Birds to dominate our section ‘D’. John and his birds have been coming well all season in club, fed and National racing, also flying to a small back garden loft.

My winner of the AA National race was a yearling blue bar hen which had previously won 2 x 1

OPEN ROB JONES & JAMIE WELLS (BARTLETT, JONES & WELLS) OF SOUTHAMPTON. THIS 4 YEAR OLD BLUE

hen who has won the Section was a much favoured pigeon as it was this partnerships single entry pooled all the way through.

Jamie Wells and Rob Jones

6 th & 7

th Open Dave Roberts of Emsworth. First of all I would like to congratulate all the winners in the CSCFC/

BBC.

The first bird I clocked is a Frans Zwol hen unpaired racing to the young bird shed.

My second hen is also unpaired a Frans Zwol bred by Richard Heron. This being their first race because they are widowhood hens my hens only come out in the old hens races every year.

Dave Roberts

Paul Baker & Jane Middleton

1 st Section G Paul Baker & Jane Middleton of Seaford. This is myself Paul Baker and my partner Jane Middleton holding Grace. She is a lovely yearling Grizzle hen from the line of Dennis Ford, which we acquired from Tumley

Lofts a few years ago and a Don Harvey of Dover bird.

Grace has flown North Road and South Road this year, being very consistent and winning a few positions in the club (LSRFC). For this race she was flying back to 12 day eggs.

1 st Section B Steve Travers of Poole. I'd like to congratulate all winners. Our bird was a gift from Patrick Harris and

Bill Edwards of Portsmouth. She was bred from Busschaert Old Family crossed with Busschaert New Family and her name is Bleep Bleep. She has been a steady, consistent bird for me for the last 2 seasons. She came back from this

RACE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

It was a very tough race here in the South West. I think we need to say a big thank you to Race Advisor, Clive

Merrills, and Convoyers Pat and Chris for moving the convoy to Ilkeston after witnessing the horrific peregrine attack on a Welsh organisation that liberated early.
